Title: Desk causing iPad problems?
Post by: K-Dubber on March 12, 2016, 07:31:30 PM
So I've been using my 1608 for over a year now and had a 16gb 4th gen permanently attached, which has always suffered from random restart issues, I thought I just had a dodgy iPad. Recently bought a new Air so attached my 32gb 4th gen to the desk which has always worked fine. 1st gig, it starts randomly restarting while it's working the desk. So now I start to think is the desk causing an issue? Anyone else suffered from anything like this?

Do you mean completely restarting? Random, short disconnects of master fader are a known issue I think. Mine has always done it quite often, regardless of software version, but only when docked...

Not if I've been buying iPad replacements as a result!

I've had my 1608 for about 3yrs and use an iPad 2.  If you hadn't seen the exact same issue on a second IPad, I would have suggested troubleshooting the iPad.  Eg. Does the iPad reboot while running MF via a wireless connection.  This is obviously irelevent.
Having followed this and other boards for quite a while, I can say this is a new (or at least very uncommon) issue.   The 1604 would seem to be at fault.   If you got it from a store that still sells them, go in and ask to dock your iPad in their unit.   Most reputable stores will be happy to help you troubleshoot.    If it runs fine for an hour etc, then you've prob confirmed the hardware issue of your own unit.   Depending on warranty get it replaced or repaired.
Sorry to hear about that.

As I recall there was an issue that required the docked ipad to be charged at least 90%.   The dock will maintain charge, but some are running into inadequate capacity to normally recharge the ipad while docked.  I don't recall exactly what this is supposed to fix.

Seems like no one else here has had this problem, looks like a defective DL to me. Maybe BenO has something to say? He follows this forum and might have heard of the same issue with other users.

The 90% charge was to avoid frequent sync issues when docked. AFAIK DL has no means of causing iPad reboots.

Been running my 1608 as well as another bands 1608 and a dl32 for 3 years, I  never seen a total reboot caused by any of the boards. Since this has occurred with multiple iPads it seems apparent that the problem lies in your mixer. Hopefully it's still covered under mackie warranty. I would request a replacement ASAP

The OP never mentioned multiple iPads only the one he's been using for a year.

He does mention 2 ipad4s in his first post. Perhaps he should dock his air, if that crashes it must be the DL.

I'm sure K-Dubber can clarify that instead of us reading between the lines.

Thanks for all the replies, and sorry for late response. First gig with second ipad4 this past weekend, and the iPad restarted itself which its never done before. I'll see what happens with it at this weekends gig, if it does it again I might have to consider its the desk. Have had it over a year now so probably out of warranty.  Just never thought it could be the desk, just that I had a dodgy iPad.
