So i've been noticing some plosives from the lead singer in my band. He's using an sm58. Should we be looking for a mic upgrade to something with a better internal pop shield, or is there something within MF I can try? Maybe using a gate in some way?

What have you set your High Pass Filter to?
-
Hiya, thanks for the reply. It's set to 50hz at the mo.
-
Take it up to around 100Hz, that's fairly standard for vocals and guitars and you should get less issues.
-
Unless they're a bass vocalist, you can probably set it as high as 125 htz safely.
-
Awesome, thanks guys! Will try setting it higher for the next gig.

this is the biggest reason why I detest Shure 57 and 58 mics,
-
They're not the cream of my stock, but I find them very useful for a lot of stuff.
-
What do you guys prefer instead of a 58?
-
Rode M2 or Sennheiser 845s.
-
AKG C535EB
-
And do you mind me asking why you prefer these?

Obviously, that's why 95% of shows use them. Clearly Roger Daltry, Bono and many other great artists know nothing about live singing.
Try working on your vocalist's mic technique. Holding the mic a little higher and maybe a little further away can work wonders. If the plosive is there any decent mic is going to pick it up. Use your EQ....

I don't have a particular issues with the Shures, the Rodes have a tighter pattern, better feedback control and more clarity in my experience. The Sennheisers are better for users who don't have great vocal technical, but they still provide some of the benefits of the Rode M2.

Thanks for the info!

I have both the shures and sennheisers. I tend to go with the 58's usually out of habit.
I will have to give the 845's another try
