ok let's give mackie a break from critique, a grand for the 8 mic channel version do you think they will sell many?
Plus points, nice physical size, no pad required, and hints of an fx footswitch
:)

Looks like the street price for the 8-channel is about $900 (at least at Sweetwater). I think it's a little steep, myself. I'd prefer the 16, which is running $1300 -- not a bad price. 8 channels just isn't enough for anything I do.

Interesting to know that Greg Mackie was involved in the design of the TouchMix mixers.

I can't wait to see the footswitch thingummy

I'm not sure what I'd use that for. I guess it would be good for dumping effects between songs. It would be really cool if it could mute the input to the effect(s) instead of the outputs. There are some songs that would be really useful for, especially when mixing from the stage without a dedicated sound person.

It's ages since I lead a band and played guitar, but i don't know how anyone copes with these new desks when the desk is behind you, musicians are flanking you and you just want to kill the fx to maybe talk to the crowd mid song, not post or pre but mid song and keep playing, and stay on the mic,
Yeagh, I know, ipad iphone on a stand,
Call me old fashioned, but it wasn't broke, even when it got stood on, why fix it?

Hi there
What difference would muting fx in /out make to the foh?
Cheers

If you mute output, the effect cuts off hard. If you mute input, you can have the effect tail off while something continues over it. For instance, putting an echo on the vocal at the end of Burning Down The House, and then the singer can say something without feeding into the echo.

Yes that makes sense, my desk only has one fx ,I mute it about 2 bars before the track ends to disguise the abrupt return to dry vox.
