Recording error with DL32R
(1/1)
MrDOS:
I've been recording shows each weekend with my DL32R for months now, always with no issues. On the drive from last Saturday's recording, I've found (so far) 2 instances where it sounds like maybe the drive can't keep up with the data being sent.
Here's a clip from the drum overhead channel (the funny business is from 0:06 - 0:19):

The anomaly appears in all 16 tracks at the same spot(s).
The drive is a WD My Passport 1 TB that is about 3 years old, and has been used quite a bit for other applications before I got the Mackie in January, 2015.
The recording in question is 16 tacks, with the Multi-Waves split using Wave Agent Beta.
First I will try re-formatting the drive, and I will probably pick up a new one as I've been wanting to have a spare anyhow.

I think your drive is waving goodbye :(
robbocurry:
As Dan says, the drive could be on the way out.
Also consider that vibration caused by sound waves/resonance can affect spinning HDDs.
It's been addressed on the A&H QU forum as approved drives were not performing as expected.
Isolation of spinning HDDs or a change to solid state storage (in the case of the QU series, mostly USB thumb drives) has cured recording glitches.
Just my 2p worth :)
MrDOS:
Thanks guys - It does appear that some of the glitches are near peaks in the bands volume. I will look at some shock foam or something.

Just don't cause it to overheat by wrapping it with foam or somethin' .
