We use a DL1608 as the mixer for our church audio system. We run a traditional service where the PA system is only used for enhancement of the spoken word - no instruments. We had the system dialed in on Master Fader 3 so all faders were around 0 and the metering running around -10db for the "normal" volume level in the sanctuary. The metering also showed some indications for ambient noise in the room. We upgraded to Master Fader 4.67 last week to gain access to the recording enhancements. I immediately noticed that the metering had no indication of ambient noise and only rose to -20db on peaks. The fader positions were unchanged and the room volume levels appeared to be the same.
Has anyone else noticed this phenomena? Any suggestions for getting the metering back to a reasonable level without having to rebalance the whole system?
Thanks in advance

you don't need to change a thing.
The bottom of the meters used to be -90 dBFS. Now they are -60 like many other consoles. Result is no meter activity unless you have real signal.

Thanks for the explanation. The ambient indication was a good indicator that the particular mike was working. The one confusion is that what used to be -10db level indication is now -20db - something new to get used to.

getting used to it is no big deal .. it was a welcome change for me.

Maybe they finally corrected their meter mess. Old issue.

Just use it as a relative measure nothing more.
