The digital MizWix is finally unveiled :
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/musikmesse-2013-news/826379-allen-heath-launches-qu-16-compact-digital-mixer.html
-
If this can expand to 24 or 32 inputs and the I Pad app is anything like the GLD or I live it will be amazing.
-
If this can expand to 24 or 32 inputs
You apparently can run two layers of inputs :D . Expansion and/or digital snake via GLD-AR2412 or GDL-AR84 .
-
Oh man, I just got to mix on a GLD a couple of weeks ago, very impressive!
After sitting through a couple of their online videos I had no trouble getting it up & running, and was very happy with the sound (as were the clients).
This QU16 looks like a killer for small club/install/church or running a secondary stage at a festival. Not something I need right now, but I'll be keeping an eye on its release...
-
The extra three stereo inputs plus talkback mic input is killer - competes well with the Presonus S16 channel count unlike the DL1608 and iX16 :( .
-
This board is in a completely different class than the Mackie. And a completely different price point. Thanks for sharing though. It's definitely going to be an awesome mixer.

At ~$2000 it's a competitor to the X32 producer :) .

Oh dear. I really didn't need to hear that!
I have one of the UK's biggest Allen & Heath dealers 5 miles up the road.
This can only lead to a divorce or no summer holiday lol!
I did say nice things about Behringer gear but said I didn't need them as I'd just invested recently.
This is different... :o
This is why I have to keep working.
This is why I love working after all these years.
Maybe you've guessed by now that I'm a big fan of A&H.
One of my friends is the head tech at the dealership (Reasound.co.uk) and had been invited over to A&H last year to give input into the new "digital wizard".
From what he saw at that stage he said it would be a "good 'un" and he's used with the very best of gear.
Anyway, I'll calm down. This is the DL forum. It's a keeper too. Oh dear again

Where are the good music stores in the UK? I'm here now.
-
I'm afraid I can't help you there, I'm too far from London to have any first hand knowledge of anything worth a trip. There used to be a host of smaller instrument orientated shops off the Tottenham Court Road years ago. They had lots of rare and exotic used bargains, or so they seemed at the time;)
-
If you are coming to Belfast however, I can take you to the local A&H dealer. They usually have iLive, GLD, Midas & Yamaha on display, demoed through Martin, Coda etc. Floorspace-wise it's probably a small store compared to US stores but they shift a lot of boxes and always have good brands.
-
They are going to be available here from the 25th of May, the dealer has a first batch of 10 coming in then. £1600+VAT (20% tax)
I have to ask myself though, do I really, really need it?
Honestly, no. :o
Will I buy one, probably.
I haven't even heard it yet, it might be crappy, although I doubt that.
Apologies for the multiple posts, I'm easily excited. ::)
-
Looks like the only exciting feature here is that you can hang it on a rail. :o

MEH!
-
Does not look like it is expandable input wise. :-[ Wonder if the the Aux's are pre dynamics? They totally blew the new Soundcraft Expression in this regard. What the hell are they thinking. More than likely these consoles will be used to mix monitors from FOH. Makes me wonder if the engineers have ever mixed a show.
This new AH would be great if it were expandable. I see it having a hard time competing with the new Behringer crap. I'm not going to spend this kind of cash for 16 inputs. I think I will be holding onto my Mix Wiz.
If they made a 24 channel version of the DL I would buy for shure.

It's for opening giant beer bottles.....

here we go again,
yet another expensive, overly complicated (for 16 ch.) mixer that is oh.... digital!
So park that thing on your table in the back of the room where you will have to sit, run your AC extension cord and
tape down the 150 foot ethernet cable that must go to the expensive "brains" uh, umm, interface by the stage and plug in all your mics.
Yes you can run this expensive overly complicated mixer with an iPad,, now that's a cool idea, but why the expensive console surface?
Geez...
Even though I am sometimes dumbfounded at Mackie's ignorance lately, nobody,... and I mean nobody gets it.
We don't need a console, and we don't need an ethernet interface... not for 16 channel cutesy little mixers that get the job done.
I love Allen & Heath products I own two but this is just stupid.... well, to me it is, it is just not practical.
-
Agreed Dan, but it is beautiful, new & shiny. ;)
Much as the Mackie DL is fab and Behringer's x-series look good, having an A&H will get me more hire work.
It's just the way it works here.
-
I did a recording session last night using a ZED-R16, and was reminded why I don't like A&H - their analog preamps suck. There's a crazy threshold in the gain knob around 11-12 o'clock where it goes from "not hot enough" to "burning and crackling" with no room for error.
I didn't have that experience with the GLD I worked on so I think they've improved things in the move to digital gain.

This is one thing Mackie got spot on - the taper in their gain controls is awesome!
-
I got to see this at the frankfurt show and it's great I am dumping the mackie for this. It's about 800 quid dearer than a mackie but is everything the mackie isn't.
You can even do 16 channel recording. Played with the behringer desk too it was pretty cool but still felt like disposable audio.
I am probably going to buy this desk as soon as it comes out
-
Had hands on with a QU16 today - it's very nice and built like a tank. More importantly, it sounded sweet with nice sounding eq and effects. Deliveries for customers imminent......
-
Qu16 and dl1608, apples and oranges.
-
I don't understand why they don't make a physical control surface with wifi to the brain/stagebox?

Any sign of that X32 rack yet?

That would be a cool accessory!

X32 rack = lemon?
Apologies, I couldn't resist it.
Away to put my tin hat on ;)
-
Can't find my tin hat, joking aside, the x32 rack will be a great piece of kit when it becomes available. :thu:
