Title: simple ethernet adapter
Post by: Weogo on December 24, 2016, 02:33:48 AM
Hi Folks,

Ran across this, looks interesting:
 https://rbconnect.rebotnix.com
They say their device uses less power than the WiFi radio, so battery lasts a little longer.
About $160, shipped to US.

Would be sweet to have a version with an Ipad/phone charging port.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Anyone claiming this "RB-Connect is build by rebotnix technologies, the he worldwide leader in hardware and software communication solutions." and not having specs I'd worry about.

Hi WK,

What specs would you like to see?

Printed on the side it indicates CE and ROHS compliance.

Do you want to know dimensions, weight, base-100/1000 speed?

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Simple, how about operating current in milli-amps (ma). That's the deciding factor for the iPad. The current Apple 10/100 Ethernet dongle draws 160 ma, too much for the iPad without an external power source.

Hi Wk,

I got this information from the company:

Watts: 0,082w
Volts: 5v
Amps: 0.0164A

The Aluminum casing dissipates heat, so they say it won't over-heat.

A newer version is in the works, that has a Lightning power input.

Thanks and good health, Weogo

I think I'll wait for the plastic version for $16 or Apple"s version for $30. I don't need to run over it with a truck. Overheat at 82 mw?  ::)
Cheers

Hi WK,

To clarify, I asked them if it would overheat in 38C summer heat and they said no.
Around here, I might paint the case white so the case would absorb less heat.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Weogo to clarify who they are   https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1177491332/rb-connect-ethernet-for-apple-ios-devices
Not that they couldn't develop a unit under the Apple power requirement but they also need to be recognized as a Apple product by the software (spoof). I'd save my money.
Cheers
