Title: DL806-1608 Service manual including schematics
Post by: WK154 on April 28, 2020, 07:20:54 PM
Finally someone posted the service manual including schematics for the DL1608. This might answer some long standing questions.

Almost honest but missing J6, J7 connector I/O and Beartooth Paddleboard signals (  http://cacophony.aspinock.com/index.php?topic=464.msg3462#msg3462  ) found here. So what else is missing?

Found more missing info surrounding the Cypress PSoC 3, which in and of itself requires additional knowledge or the code to determine some functions, a missing chip ID U51 and signal connections that are unnamed. Nice try Mackie. So far the PSoC controls the USB (docking) protocol, the iPad charging circuit and some mixer startup functions. Whether its firmware is changeable is unclear since it was designed to provide security from unauthorized access as an option.

A quick check of the schematics revealed no less than 10 power converters in addition to the external power supply. I bet it glows in the dark in that RFI soup. Voltages used are 12V external supply, 5V iPad, 3.3V, 7V, +15/-15V, 1.1V, 48V, 5V 3 of them, 2.5V.

so if I increased the voltage of all of these, would the DL1608 have more bass and compression?

HA!

No jobs still, :( very sad, believe it or not I cut two lawns yesterday for money.
Makes me really appreciate my "normal" sound jobs, concerts etc.

On a better note, my new Milwaukee grass trimmer is phenomenal!

Thanks WK!

this ain't me :)

If all goes well my wife and I will be in St. Louis next year (Oct 9 - 17 2021) for the Sweet Adelines International Convention, maybe we can meet. Stay safe.
Cheers

Thanks Dan. On the subject of increasing the 12V supply, I used a 12V SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) battery to eliminate a number of problems (bad AC at gigs, Pin 1 problem etc.). For that the DL1608 needed to work up to about 14V and down to 11V which it did without problems. Looking at the schematic most of the IC's can handle voltages to 50-60V but the capacitors in circuit some are only rated at 16V so there's the limit. Heat in that range was not a problem either although even at normal 12V there is about a 30 degree F rise between ambient and the preamp area. For longer MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) it could probably use a fan (40mm). I use that in the Beringer gear XR18/MR18 etc. in spite of Uli's insistence that it doesn't need it  ;D. Temperature changes component values which in turn affect signals which after all are eventually converted to sound.
Cheers

When I see you in St. Louis I'll be 80. I always thought bigger numbers are better  :(  My advise is don't retire it will kill you. All those projects that you never had time for using work as an excuse will stare you in the face and there is no escape except for that pine box. See you in 2021.
