hi guys
I notice Roughly a 50 euro difference in price on thomann for the old and lighting version of the dl, do you think the new version comes with the correct plastic tray to suit iPad Air?
They have it listed separately at 49 euros, 88 for the rack bracket,
Not on IMHO if it's another spend, taking it too close to the price of a berry rack.
Is there an alternative to the mackie mount?
Cheers

The rack tray is expensive, I built my DL into an ally tool/camera/WHY box from Maplin.

I made the tray from a piece of sheet metal I had in stock but it would be simple enough to make out of ally angle or some such.

From what I have read, if you get a DL with the lightning connector, at this point in time, you need to get a separate iPad Air Tray. Looks like the Air tray is approx. $50.00 US. Here in Toronto, the price is the same, but by the time you buy a DL1608 and then the Air Tray, you are getting close to X32 rack territory. I may be way out in left field, so please, anyone chime in on this if they would like?
For current 30 pin dock owners it's not too much of a big investment to go to lightning, but still an expense just the same.

Thanks guys
That's about 150 less than the rack
What a bummer, diy case looks good

I too like your case solution. Nice and compact!
I made something similar albeit a little larger using the EWI Audiopile lift-off lid briefcase, which with the DL mounted front-to-back and all the way to one side, leaves a bunch of space on the other side for the EWI 8 channel output TRS-XLR snake, a power cable, router, and sundry other crap.
I'll post a couple pictures if I can find them.

I hate to be a moaner
But fifty quid for a bit of plastic, mackie are not doing themselves any favours are they, same with that lightning adaptor, when is the next ipad due, that's another bit of plastic I guess.

To be fair to Mackie, the tooling costs for a very small (in the greater scheme of things) run of injection moulded plastic trays is what makes them relatively expensive to produce. Even so I bet they'd still be making a profit at £20

I guess it's all about the numbers Sam, but not nice to have to keep spending once you have committed to a product.

Agreed ::)

I think once they drop everything and concentrate on the dl 602 1u rack, with its internal ssd hard drive that syncs with your iTunes playlists and library, is a destination for recordings, then sort out a macro that ties scenes to songs and thus eradicates my moan over the absence of fx footswitches on modern desks, let's the pad be a remote control only, I will be a happy bunny.
How hard can that be
They could code name it wonder mix
;D ;D

Crikey
Just realized that the dl 1608 lightning is 210 euros more expensive than the normal model
What the hell

Interesting ... both Lightning and Dock Connector (30-pin) versions of the DL1608 cost the same here in the States (B&H). The insert trays for either the Air or the Mini are $40. The rack mount is $100, though. Interesting to me that the ones that require expensive injection molding tooling cost much less than the one that requires relatively inexpensive stamping tools. Go figure.

Nice job on the case mounting! I wish I'd seen this before I stuffed mine in a similar box. Maybe a modification will be in order for the weekend...

The PSU sits under the mixer and I fitted a power connecter on the back of the box with a couple of trailing leads to the PSU and router so they're ready to go. Works a treat :)

I can't figure out much that modern providers do any more,
:)
It seems for European users we are being punished by mackie for apples changes.
