Title: DL1608 for sale Manchester UK
Post by: sam.spoons on February 23, 2014, 08:49:08 AM
Hi Guys

Don't get me wrong, I still love the DL but due to some higher profile gigs in the offing I need to buy a more rider friendly mixer (and to help the guest engineers with the learning curve it has to have real faders). Sadly the DL has to got to go to fund the new desk. It's in near mint condition, built into an ally tool box with a euro mains connector on the outside and comes with the original shipping box, manuals etc. It's on ebay as I type but I'll close the auction if anybody's interested. I'm looking for £750, pics available, PM me if you're interested.

Sam I am curious as to what the dl is new for in the uk, and how does £750 compare to Us $. I sold mine, also in mint condition, for $725 US with the carrying case. They do sell new now through some companies for $799, but typically it's $999. I sold mine quick after the x18 was announced, and just after the x32 series price drop. There is no doubt in my mind that there will have to be a serious MAP price drop or the dl will not be able to compete. And of course that will drive down the used market price.

Sam that would be $1248 not bad if you can get it. What is the new desk going to be?

PS I'll send you mine for $48 you keep $200 and I'll take $1000 not bad.

Street price in the UK is £999 (with the odd retailer selling for maybe £20 less), two or three used ones have sold on ebay.co.uk for around £750 recently but I'm open to sensible offers.

The new desk is probably going to be either a Berry X32 Compact or Allen & Heath Qu16. So far the X32 is looking favourite (I've recently had an "no berry" rider but the engineer who sent it has since said he's considering buying an X32). I'm a definite A&H fan but the X32 just offers too much more for the same price.

As I said I'm upgrading because I want physical faders and multitrack recording (though the dodgy reverbs are a consideration too, they are ok, fine for most gigs but I have used better). I'd love to be able to keep the DL for my bar gigs but I can't afford to buy a new mixer without selling the Mackie  :(

Of course the whole deal could go TTU so it's conceivable I'll still be on here for a while....

The x32 is becoming very rider friendly. Like you pointed out, even those who were anti berry are now all about berry. The x32 is a game changer. And buying Midas didn't hurt.

I've withdrawn the DL from sale, on ebay at least, I've decided it's so useful that I'm going to try to find another way of funding the purchase of a bigger desk, maybe by selling my analogue studio desk (A&H GL2200, 24 channel), Mackie SDR24 and studio fx and putting the new desk in the studio for most of the time. Without the need to patch an fx rack and 24 track recorder it'll make re-patching after live jobs relatively simple. The Analogue desk has in excess of 50 TS/TRS/XLR connections need re-plugging (all with dodgy labelling) every time, the digital desk will only need the 4 monitor outs, stereo control room outs and a single USB cable re-connecting each time so 7 cables instead of 50+, much easier to keep track of :D

It also means I could consider the full sized X32 as I won't be hauling it out to bar gigs, only the odd big job.

A friend told me the qu24 may be sub £2000....

It's $2799 in the US that's £1678 plus ship minus warranty. :( Better yet tell them your on tour in the UK and need it fixed NOW if it breaks.

Good idea WK!
Three questions:
Do you have a big suitcase?
When are you coming to the Uk?
What's your smuggling surcharge?
 ;)

.....I wish the QU series had scribble strips - my only major gripe :(

Qu24 looks set to be £2200, same as full sized X32, if it's sub £2k they'll probably have to reduce the Qu16 to £1500ish.

The X32 Producer lacks scribble strips too, the Compact has them and is only £100 more than the Qu16 (with the same number of faders and twice the horse power under the hood).

I really like the Qu16 but it's lack of future expandability means I'm strongly leaning towards the X32 Compact at present (and I'll keep the DL for bar gigs) My FOH rig is just about big enough to justify an X32 front end and it'll probably end up in the studio most of the time so it won't lie entirely unused between live jobs.

Oh, crap Sam. I think I've just clicked my way to a qu24 at Anderton's.
This could lead to divorce....😩
Don't think I'll part with the DL though, unless it's in the settlement😝

Oh dear.......
In a rush of blood trying to keep Mrs. Curry happy (five things out, one thing in), I put mine on eBay for £750 with a case. I had 7 watchers, one very interested who asked a few questions.
I flogged a few other bits and pieces, including my spare desk, so I ended the auction early.
It really is too handy to get rid of and besides, I might not like the new one  ;)

I'm busy trying to find the cash to buy the X32 or Qu16 without selling the DL (I was going to buy a backup mixer in any case, though something a bit cheaper than the DL). My local dealer is about to start carrying Berry stuff again and have promised an X32 for me to look at in the next week or so.

Anderton's 0% finance was tooooooo hard to resist! That's where my DL came from too. :thu:

I get it but I'm trying to avoid future debt (and I hope to screw a very good deal out of the dealer in question).

It arrived on Friday Sam, a gorgeous piece of kit! For the two gigs I had this weekend I used.........the DL!
Can't see me parting with this wee desk anytime soon except I get the urgent need to record all my small gigs.
I'm just wondering now what the new QSC mini mixer will be like.....

Sounds great, I've had a couple of sessions playing with the Qu16 and it is very nice.

I supplied PA for Faustus on Friday (their engineer is the "no berry" guy mentioned above and the cause of this quest). He had said he'd go with my rig "as is" for the gig so that's what he got and he absolutely loved the DL1608. Unfortunately the lack of multitrack recording makes it a non-starter for him though so he thinks he'll buy an X32 Rack very soon.

Hmm, interesting choice for a "no Behringer" guy. It still needs a computer for multitrack recording though doesn't it?
The Touchmix will be a belter if it sounds as good as it looks, and is priced right. Although we get stiffed every time here in the UK.

The X32 seems to be viewed as separate from everything else Behringer make and immune from "no berry" riders  I had already had an email conversation with Matt (said engineer) and we discussed options, both he and I had X32 and Qu16 at the top of our respective shortlists and he had considered the DL but discounted it because of the lack of multitrack recording.

The tech rider in question had been drafted after a particularly bad gig where the promotors idea of a suitable rig for an award winning UK folk trio in a 350 capacity venue was a Peavy mixer amp and two HiSys 2s (and only two mics...) The rider actually said "Any mixer with BEHRINGER/MACKIE or any other similar unprofessional equipment is not acceptable. Midas/Yamaha/Soundcraft are most likely able to cover our requirements".

In fact they are all really nice guys and brilliant performers, we sold out the room and everybody had a great night.

I this case, I know exactly who, and why (see above) :) And I'm not complaining 'cos it had the desired effect and made the organisers sit up and take notice, the consequence being that I got the gig  8)
