Title: Spare Power transformer
Post by: Renoman on January 26, 2015, 04:39:13 PM
I read in an earlier forum that it was a good idea to carry a spare power transformer for the DL 1608. The cheapest one I found was from Aliexpress.com for about $8.00 all in. 12v 5amp.
Much more costly on Ebay.

I paid close to 20.00 for mine.  and yes it's a great idea carry a spare.  Hell it's a great
idea to carry a spare EVERYTHING.   almost 2 years into the 1608 and I still carry a spare board !

That's a great price - I paid $8.99 for a 3A one a couple years back. I've used it on gigs no prob. I also carry a spare router and at least two iPads. Oh, and a small spare mixer (Yamaha MG82FX). Plus a spare main, etc :) .

I carry a spare mixer and two iPads, nothing else would stop the show e.g. if a main speaker (QSC K12) goes down I'll use a monitor (Yamaha DXR10) if the sub goes down I'll do without.....

Personally, I wouldn't trust a show to the cheapest transformer I could buy. My spare is better than the stock one.

That's a good point but how do you test a transformer and what makes a better one better? Where did you get yours, what brand and how much ?

The first test is to look at the price. When you get it in hand, you can do the pin 1 test, listen for rf hash in your outputs, and listen for noise while holding the power supply next to the mixer with channels open.

Here's a message listing the one I got.

Here are two long threads explaining why it matters, aside from the likelihood of the cheapest supply simply burning up.

Thanks for the info, I'll test the cheap one and list my findings soon.
