Title: DL16S/32S "Offical Info from Mackie"
Post by: WK154 on July 06, 2018, 01:10:07 AM
Since the info is scattered throughout their Website and Webcasts, I thought it would be useful to have it in one place. Please don't clutter this post with other questions or statements unless they have been "officially announced" on Mackie's and their resellers Websites.
Let's address the timeline for this product. The statement was made that early August both DL16S and DL32S will be on the shelf to purchase. That would imply that V5.0.0 of MF should also be available (iPad and Android). We'll see (can you say Beta?). The V5.1.0 will be available sometime in the fall (PC, Mac, iPad and Android versions). This version completes the Dl1608/DL806 and the DL32R FX/Dante  upgrade. The Axis upgrade is version V5.1.1.0 sometime after?
A comparison chart of all 5 Digital mixers is part of the DL1608 info and it leaves both Dl1608 and DL806 at 2 FX channels and the Dl16S/Dl32S/Dl32R at 4. There will be no matrix buss on any mixers other than the DL32R along with Dante and direct drive recording or playback.
Since the preamps are advertised as Onyx+ one could assume individual Phantom power and hopefully no change from the DL32R (Mackie in the past has kept the name the same and changed the design).
Since Ben Olswang is now the Software Manager, I hope he can deliver all that's promised and on time (17 most wanted features). Matt Herrin is the product manager for the new DL's.
As time goes on please add other info. Once the Spec Sheet is available we will have a better idea what the new Dl's have to offer. What's worth a $100 (DL16S) more than a XR18? :)
Title: Re: DL16S/32S "Offical Info from Mackie"th 2019.

Since early August is the "on the shelf" time I consider this as Aug 10th at the latest. That's 2 weeks from now. The count down is on! BenO meet your deadline please.

UPDATE:
It appears that most suppliers that don't have "coming soon" as a delivery date are stating Sept. 21 & 23 as the delivery date. So much for BenO ( a leopard can't change it's spots) and promises! He did say Fall as the V5.0 date, that's Sept. 22 onward. Can't realistically sell DL16S/DL32S's without it.  October sounds like a more likely date. The 5.1 will probably be at NAMM 2019 (January) so don't hold your breath. Mackie's release schedule as I read it indicates the beginning of Winter, that's Dec. 21st til March 20 for 5.1. Axis is after that.

Update:
2018
June 20 --- Introduction of DL16/32 via webcast.
July 31 -- Owners manual was posted.
Aug. 11---- Nothing on anyone's shelf. Next time Sept. 23.!
Sept. 21. -- I now see October 10,24,25 as the new dates. Why do manufacturers have to lie to us, do they think we are fools?
Sept. 28 ---More resellers have gone to "Back-order, out of stock, New pre-order etc. not a good sign I may have to change my October estimate to Christmas soon . Great Job BenO.
Oct. 2 ---- Bufalo in post below coaxed Oct. 30 out of Mackie but then all the other dates came from them or their resellers. Resellers don't like having to make excuses for suppliers. My Oct. estimate may hold after all.
Oct. 10 --- Bufalo received his DL16S but no software to run it.   :)  Still no Reference manual. Great Job BenO and MattHe
Oct 18 --- We now have the USB driver for Windows, real useful.
Oct 29 --- Updated release schedule stating Oct 30 for v5.0 and "early 2019 for V5.1 and V5.1.1" we'll see. My initial estimates above so far were on the money.
Oct 29 -- V5.0 Release Notes are posted. This is a disaster. 13 missing features (first two not included in count) and 29 major bugs to be dealt with in V5.x. That's excluding bugs yet to be found by users.
Oct 30 -- As advertised both iOS and Android versions are up on their respective download sites. Finally something on time. Thanks BenO I don't have to revise my estimate. I could only evaluate the Android Phone version, very limited.
Nov. 23 --- The Master Fader Reference Manual has arrived.  https://mackie.com/sites/default/files/Master%20Fader_V5_0_RG.pdf   Hopefully answering some questions.
2019
Jan  8 --V5.0.1 released. Bug fixes   https://mackie.com/sites/default/files/Master%20Fader%20V5_0_1%20Release%20Notes.pdf
Jan 23 -- Updates on MF release dates July for MF5.1  :(
March 28 --- MF V5.0.2 is released, so far so good.
May 1--- Master Fader 5.1 Beta program might be here soon.  https://mackie.com/blog/master-fader-beta-program
May 16--- Received Beta program details and download info
Aug 1 --- Missed major milestone for MF 5.1
Sep 1 --- Another month gone by. Hopefully only one more. The iPadOS will be the next excuse  :)  Mackie has given the "coming soon" a new meaning.
Sep 24 --- Apple released iPadOS 13 for the iPad only. Two more days and my prediction of 2 month late falls apart. Com-on Mackie you can do it.
Oct 1 ---- Another month gone and still no MF 5.1
Nov 1 ---- It's now been 3 months behind schedule. Hope November is the final delay Mackie!
Dec 1 --- Another disappointing month with no V5.1 in sight. Maybe the whole team quit? There is always NAMM 2020 Jan 16. I wouldn't want to be the one manning their booth.
2020

The OM (owners Manual) has made it to the web site. No surprises there. Need to wait for the Master Fader Reference guide for a definitive view of Wi-Fi. So far it's a AP, Client and wired connection. AP mode as described has to have a DHCP server, the rest ?

Mackie replied to a Facebook comment I made saying that the DL16S and 32s will be available in "select dealers" Oct 30th, and that MF5.0 will be available same day.

Well I got notice from Guitar Center and Sweetwater over last weekend that they have stock.   UPS delivered my DL16S yesterday.   So far I have a nicely built metal box with plugs on it that I can't yet use, as Mackie hasn't yet published the software.

That’s good news and bad.  Hope the software is released quickly.  I’m looking forward to it cause I’m considering buying one.  I like the changes over the DL1608 that I’ve been using for the last 5 years.  Waiting for a review online that I trust.

I'm also pretty sure that Guitar Center wasn't supposed to sell this to me yet, since all the major music retailers now show 10/30 or 11/14 as the availability date.  hah!

Sorry that I've taken this thread off of "Offical Mackie Info," I'll continue conversation elsewhere.

Perhaps I wasn't clear on the "Offical Mackie Info" but it should have clearly included their resellers info and actions (fixed in post above), without which they would not survive. No need to take this elsewhere. Wynnd is another story.

Version 5 release notes (all 3 pages) are posted. Among the missing features is the Reference Manual, REALLY.  Nothing of any value on networks. 29 bugs listed (listings are a good thing). Can you say partial Beta (Alpha) release. Not for gigs for sure. Maybe next year courtesy of BenO.  Read it for yourself.

For those of you that might want to listen to more Mackie Marketing BS here is Matt Herrin on the from the "ground up rewrite" of the MF app. He must have been referring to the Android app only. Some mods to the iOS version I'm sure.
https://www.facebook.com/Mackie/videos/2256740504400432/
Matt you may want to review your videos before posting them. The echoey audio for a outfit dealing in sound is really embarrassing or are you showing off FX delay?.

The Mackie Master Fader Reference Manual V5.0 has arrived. Happy reading for those in need.
https://mackie.com/sites/default/files/Master%20Fader_V5_0_RG.pdf
It also includes DL1608/806/DL32R info. Nothing yet on 5.1 PC or Mac features. Will need a update or new Guide for that.

It's getting very confusing now, with so many different models being covered in the same document.
Would be nice to have a guide limited to the 1608. I doubt I will be moving from that model.

I tried that many moons ago with RR and you can see the results. Useless if you have a specific product. Haven't even recognized the new DL line  >:D. He did add the Behringer and Presonus lines  :thu:

Mackie of course treats it as one line with significant differences.

I was referring to the actual manual, not the forum but I understand that frustration as well. Steinberg has the same issue with their forum.

In defense of Mackie's manual (I know that seems unusual coming from me) , it's one of the better ones out there and they do try to separate models. Behringer has almost nothing of value and it is my biggest complaint against them. The computer industry many decades ago realized that a searchable manual (Help drop-down menu) needed to be part of any reasonable app. Mackie at least has it available in PDF form in setup. Some misguided soul at B.. thinks that the new answer is U-Tube tutorials  . or some outdated Wiki much to the chagrin of the Midas folks. Even worse is their multi-lingual versions that are almost useless. Mackie rushed the V5.0 manual and I hope they clean it up later. They also have some bad advise about WiFi.

Buried in the back of the Reference Guide is a list of bug fixes for V5.0.1 but no release is on the Google Play store, what gives? Is V5.0 the same as 5.0.1?

V5.0.1 finally released see update:   https://mackie.com/sites/default/files/Master%20Fader%20V5_0_1%20Release%20Notes.pdf
Claims updated Reference Guide but haven't found any evidence of it.

New update schedule for various releases.
Master Fader 5.0.2
This update will be ready for DL16S and DL32S customers in March. This includes Android small tablet compatibility and additional bug fixes.
Master Fader 5.1 Beta Program will begin in April. Program details coming soon.
Master Fader 5.1
This will be ready for DL16S, DL32S, DL806, DL1608, DL32R and DL Dante Card customers in July. This includes iOS, Android, macOS & Windows compatibility and import/export functionality.
Master Fader 5.2
This will be ready in Q3 for DC16 customers. This includes iOS, Android, macOS & Windows compatibility and Master Fader Follow Mode.
I hope they can keep this schedule and it's certainly not "early 2019".
My prediction on the above dates is to add two months to be realistic  :) . My DL1608 is going back in the box for another six to eight months  :(  .

When using Master Fader 5.0.1 there is now an “updated” reference guide supplied rather than a copy of Version 4.5. However, it does not speak the truth to the actual software, especially on the matter of importing and exporting Shows.

The Reference Guide speaks about using the Settings/System Backup to gain access to the process of “Import/Export” but the only option available is a total system reset. Does anyone know how to import a Show in MF5 or must we wait for another software update?

In the V5.0 release notes 3rd entry in future upgrades Import/Export says it all. Patience is a virtue  :)

Well I thought that its supposed to be Master Fader Beta program so why do you list it under DL16/32S/DL1608/DL32R  info not Master Fader Mackie? Marketing must be a mess by now. No updates on their Web Site on many fronts, no marketing Dineros? Not a good sign.
Here is the Beta program signup.   https://mackie.com/blog/master-fader-beta-program     have at it.

Well its midnight and gone is any hope of meeting my 2 month late release of MF 5.1. Maybe Mackie didn't want to steal Apples thunder with all their new products  :). Maybe we'll see the "Trick or Treat"  version of MF 5.1 from Mackie. Mackie could also wait for November, their traditional release month of new software or then again we may have to wait for Christmas.  :( Place your bets now or buy a Lottery ticket.

Sigh....  I'm waiting patiently.   I've held out hope I could leave this apple stuff behind because I'm sick of the issues with the little things that should just work.
Not to mention expensive repairs and outright purchase price.
The ONLY thing I use iPads for is as a control surface for the Mackie.

Well another month gone by, it's time to roast the Turkey's at Mackie. It's now been four months since the last update of demo-ware. Actually it's been more like nine months since the original Marketing B.S. about 5.1. Until Mackie finally gets their software group in order they are best selling analog mixers and speakers. It's time for their owners Transom to take a hard look at the performance of their investment. Behringer, no angel in this business may even beat Mackie to their unannounced v2.0 firmware for X-Air. They already released V4.0 for the X32 series and will bury Axis with the Wing. Mackie is only trying to keep up with what should have been the top priority several years ago while they were briefly ahead. Reminds me of V1.4 days by Mackie. Old habits die hard.
Update:
It's seems that a change in guard is underway based on job openings at Loud Audio LLC (Mackie) at the top (VP) level and in tech. Hope this will help down the road but not certainly on this issue.
Recent job openings:
Vice President Of Product Development
Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Embedded Systems (Firmware) Engineer
Digital Marketing Manager
