Title: Master Fader V1.4 Coming RealSoonNow(tm)

So does this mean there may be a slight delay in the "End of February" update  ;D

Me too, actually the 29th but close enough to hope they'll extract the digit.

BTW, cheers RR, good job. Do you think BenO will contribute

He  was down to popping in every two weeks or so towards the end so no, not likely to see him I'd think? He's probably hard at work getting V1.4 out. I think last he said it would be a couple weeks late so any day now :) .

Feeling slightly mischievous I've just emailed Mackie Tech Support asking for an update on MF 1.4 and My fader  >:D perhaps if we all do that every time we have a query they'll get fed up an reinstate the forums

Just kind of Errks  me that they were flashing the thing around at Namm so much made it seem like it was a done deal to every one that viewed it there then dropped the big it will be ready by the end of Feb and the only thing they did that was on the list of things people want is the channel ID pic save..... Some one on the forum dropped a pic view of the master fader compressor / Gate screen last fall that some one had accidentally slipped and left a Vintage / Modern tab on it so they've been working on that forever..... If this is taking so long because like Ben said they need to initiate some code to start working on other things that we need done great I can accept that I guess just would think it would include more then the fluff we already know is coming...man I need at least sub groups

If it takes this long for a "simple" update, do you think there will be any/many more?
Aren't they more likely working on a replacement product already?

I'm actually an EE and programmer in real life and can tell you that syncing pictorial channel labels between multiple iDevices connected to the DL1608 is not easy. OTOH many of the things we want are easier than that - if they are going to do channel linking and pre-comp auxes those changes should be relatively easy to do :) . Some change requests like reducing the iPad channel by 10 db or moving the mute buttons are trivial to do in comparison...

When they crack this "nut" then perhaps we'll see minor upgrades more often.
As I've said before, I'm very happy with it as is.
What they've done is awesome, I could never have written any of it in "basic" lol - showing my age!
Maybe we need to send them more love and encouragement to ensure continued interest in the DL?

Not until someone here tests it out - seems like a PITA to me and I'm not convinced it can downgrade the firmware in the DL1608. Personally I'd use this program to backup and restore the app - iTunes sucks x( :

Thanks for creating this. Really upset with MACKIE. If I had just purchased the DL1608  (and the entire DLM PA system)
I might be carting them back to Guitar Center to exchange for Behringer and QSC.

We the active users .. were both critics and supporters of the mixer .. and our input should have been invaluable to the
MACKIE staff .. helping them to shape and better refine the product. But it appears that they did not want any user
problems to be made public.

It's not uncommon for things to be released at NAMM and not materialize for months, and sometimes are scrapped altogether. I had my eye on an Ultimate Stands speaker cart that was also the stand (speakers never leave the cart). They introduced at NAMM a few years ago and it never made it to market.

There's a good quote related to NAMM someone came up with years ago ("Not Available Maybe May")

FWIW, Presonus updates for the StudioLive have the same history. I've owned an SL since January of 2009. Presonus announces updates 3-6 months before you actually see them and sometimes don't even release all the functionality they tout ahead of time. In over 4 years they've had maybe 6 updates total.

I get where you're coming from but the Berry iX16 is still only vapourware so far  ::) For the moment at least, the DL1608 is the market leader in a class of one.

I hate to say it...actually no I don't...I TOLD YOU SO. I even said that I wouldn't be surprised if Mackie shut down its forums. I guess it was all my fault. Spineless company. Can't wait till the x32 rack is released. I will never look back. Any company who would dump a great user database because they can't take the heat should not, and will not, be supported by me. If you have crappy business habits, don't know how to make a proper pr statements, have no problem lying to customers and not have the forethought to develop a product that wouldn't be left in the dust by its competitors, then you should be prepared for the backlash. Instead Mackie took the low road and punished its users.

Who is the one who said that they were ok about the delay but if it wasn't out by mid march then they would have to side with everyone who was complaining. It was either Hank or trshot. Where are you now? Still defending your beloved company. Again...I TOLD YOU SO.

Please o please behringer hurry up. FYI for everyone, the x32 rack is already out in Europe. They are waiting for US FCC approval. There are already reviews online. There are so many features Mackie will never, ever have in the dl. Here is one more: you can assign the inputs to multiple channels. You can take input 1 and assign it to channels 1 and 17. Then you can completely assign different effects, dynamics etc to each channel. Use channel 1 for the mains and channel 17 for the monitors. Sweet!

I love the 1608 it does all the things i've always wanted to do from the stage as far as playing in a band and running sound at the same time buuuut I'm starting to agree with Jerry Lee on this the more this thing strings along the more it feels like the company is on the verge of crashing hard. I've owned several things that started out kind of cool had potential then the company either went under or started another line (the next best newest thing) and stopped supporting the item I had and I was left with the option of looking for the next newest thing.....  I mean if no more updates come out and they leave the 1608 the way it is now I can survive just fine but damn that would suck  especially when you consider all the hype on getting customer feedback for future changes. Behringer used to be that bad company that no one took seriously but they are making a real effort to change there image and apparently there products. The future will tell I guess but if Mackie keeps racing towards the future the way they are I don't see them in it....

I have been using the dl for a while now and it does most of what I need. But there are limitations that are just not acceptable.  Having compression in my monitors makes using compression a no go. Especially on a larger stage. It does not look like they have any plans to address this issue. If they did someone would have said something. There is just not enough processing power to handle this. And something as small as having programmable mic pres on all the behringer x series is on its own a dl destroyer. Yes even on the ix16.

Here is a little more info you guys may not have about the ix16. Talk about smat thinking. The dock is not a dock. It is simply a tray/holder to put the iPad in. If you want to connect the iPad there is a USB out which all iPads can use. Not a limited 30 pin dock. And because of this the ix16 can be used as a 16 channel USB interface. It will also allow you to use Auria to get 16 tracks of recording. Natively you will only have stereo recording. (2 tracks).

As I said on the old forum - I'm a bit of a DSP programmer myself (and EE) and moving the tap point for the monitor sends will not require any additional processing power at all. It will require a bit more code to make it "switchable" and additional settings in the app but it should be fairly trivial assuming the code is "properly" structured. It should be just a matter of changing a pointer :) .

3. An opponent that cannot be beaten or overcome.
4. One that inflicts retribution or vengeance.

Very surprised, I really thought we would have the new app by now. I guess as its Easter the chances of getting it this week are very, very  slim. It's not that I'm angry, I'm still very happy with the desk; even if there was no promise of 1.4 I would of still got the desk, but when you know its there waiting in the wings thinking that everyday that this could be the one it makes me a little frustrated.!
I'll bet you a pint that it hits today or tomorrow :) .

RR, that's a bet you should know NOT to make givin Mackies track record!

I'm also an optimist and I believe that at this very minute, Mackie engineers are busting their asses just so that RR does not lose this bet.

OK - if any Mackoids are lurking and  reading this, are you going to take that lying down? Just release whatever you've got!  At this point I dont care if its buggy as all hell. I want to see this. I'll figure out how to back up to 1.3 later.

Hey I have a question before I even consider downloading 1.4, whenever it manages to hit:

I noticed that Mackie switched over to what I hope is just an OPTION in that the parametric EQ, compression, and some other stuff are now virtual dials and knobs. Please, oh please, tell me that this is optional and that I can still use the old style (or rather the current) interface that works on movable waveforms and such!

lol This just occurred to me.

I think it is just an option to have the vintage style compressors and EQs, bit like a pre-set as far as I can tell. Wonder what exciting things will be in 1.5 then if they are listening to us? I would like linked faders and to hide un-used channels, perhaps a maters page? Someone's suggestion of the RTA tool built in would be an absolute god-send with ringing out monitors.

Yes, the default is still the "current" style which is now called "Modern" vs "Vintage" :) .

It should be just a matter of changing a pointer :) .

...and then you need to work out how to save that change to a Snapshot and Show and then sync that change across all linked iPads. Then it needs to be tested to make sure it hasn't changed any saved snapshots or Shows from the previous versions. And I'm sure I've missed some things. Not quite so simple now :-).

Mike.

Conceptually trivial doesnt necessarily mean trivial to implement - but moving the aux send tap point should not tax the DSP at all, even if done on a per-channel basis. Might tax Mackie's programmers a bit, depending on how well this lines up with either the existing code architecture or the structural changes they are making for 1.5

Actually if done correctly Shows are just an array of structures and you just add more to the end and it should all "just work". Obviously if you don't have any "extra space" in your structures (I like to leave some just for this) you'll have to run a "run once" conversion routine but those are pretty straightforward. I have a product that uses a similar mechanism to store presets and it really is that simple :) .

Realistically, it is no closer to release or they would have the docs updated to reflect the change that could (allegedly) hit the iPad at any moment. At this point, if it doesn't hit today, I will have to wait to update until after the weekend. I am not going to risk a complete redo.

Glad to see someone has a forum back up.  It's funny how Mackie stated they released 1.4 to Apple for AppStore approval last Friday (3/29).  I'm on the beta team for an app called OnSong.  I'll tell you, it doesn't take 3-4 days to get approval.  Unfortunately, another stall tactic by Mackie  ::)

RR, a day late and a dollar short ;D. Glad I'm part of the party!!  Thanks for getting the forum up.  Jason (OnSong) must have the luck of the draw.  I always get a notification from him once the regression testing has been done that he's releasing to Apple and it's never been more than 2 days tops. That's okay, we've waited this long, what's another couple of days.  I've got a gig tomorrow and Friday, but probably better I play with it in the studio before going live, eh?

RR, you must be on the beta program if you aren't the least bit anxious to see some confirmation of features and workflow beyond the little blurb they posted a few months ago on the old forum. The rest of us are in the dark as to exactly what has changed or been modified, besides new compressors etc...

Aside from MyFader I don't see anything of much interest to me. It would be nice if icons are saved but not a big deal. Even with MyFader I have yet to have a band show up early enough to have time to mess with IEM's although a couple lead singers have requested I bring one of mine along so they can try it out. My poor man's Micro Wedge clones (coaxial monitors, the real thing are hella expensive http://www.brandxav.com/eaw-mw10-black ) are better than most so that usually solves any previous problems they were having with hearing themselves anyways. I do have the iPad Mini to loan them if I ever do use the IEM so even MyFader isn't that important to me.

RR, One of the biggest things I'm looking forward to is the way they handled saving of Shows/Snapshots.  Most users wouldn't see this issue when dealing with 1 iPad, but I use 2.  One docked and the other remote.  I always end up with duplicate, triplicate shows on both devices since they are device dependent.  Also, icons are saved amongst devices now.  Ben showed me quite a bit regarding these improvements at the NAMM show.  The Vintage EQ, etc isn't really important to me.  I still like the surgical approach (4-band EQ, etc).  That is what I'm use to on my DAW (Sonar X2). I was told that 1.4 underneath the hood is a major redesign so they can implement some of the other features we want to see in versions past 1.4 (i.e. channel linking, elimination of unused channels, etc, etc.).

Okay Mackie person, are they both with with Apple or what? or which one is "ready and planned for release very soon" That is a very ambiguous message. Forgive me if it gives me a feeling of deja-vu.

Last week you had this "My Fader v1.0 and Master Fader v1.4 are completely wrapped up and awaiting App Store approval. Should have release news soon. Thanks everyone for hanging in there. I believe what Mackie said was that one app has already been approved by Apple. It is my understanding that Apple doesn't automatically make an app "live" in the appstore when it is approved - Mackie still has to push the "go" button on it. I suppose they could release the "Master Fader" app first?

Both are with Apple. One (Master Fader v1.4) is ready to go and we will be releasing soon. The plan is to release during the day tomorrow as long as everything is running smoothly here at the office. My Fader, being a brand new app to the store is taking longer than expected, but is feature complete and simply waiting approval. I suppose I could have just posted directly on your forum, but this way more users will have access to that info. Be patient in the morning since we are west coast and have to time some web changes and communications.

Yep, well I'm glad that I left the iPads home today. I have a show to do tonight and would have been tempted to load it up. A potential catastrophe. Tomorrow will be upgrade day. After running open mic last night I gotta say that the workflow to navigate is a nightmare right now. As familiar as I am with all the screens, I was busting my ass last night to get back and forth between reverb/delay settings and the main mixer screen. Tell you what would be REALLY cool (for me at least) would be a way to use MY FADER to access just the effects settings while the iPad is still in the main mixing window. That would be a useful tool, again "for me".

Master effects mute and "top level" tap tempo button have suddenly crept into my top 5 although I think I could still get away with using the existing fx mute buttons.

Once again, I hit the eq accidentally while trying to mute and vice versa.
