Title: HC 2.0 BWTB refugees check-in here!

I am here, ready to lurk as always. Now, if I could find some people to get an original project going I could actually post something about being in a band. The music scene in my area is like HC 2.0, a virtual ghost town.  ;)

I note with some amusement I've apparently been made a moderator here. I'm more than happy, as time permits, to hang out here and keep an eye on things if traffic picks up, although I don't know if I'll have a ton of time.

In all honesty, I hope things continue to improve with HC 2.0 and the community- and especially the regulars- come back. But, people are going to do what they will, and I'm not going to beg anyone to stay, because I understand why they're leaving.

Anyhow, I'll be keeping a light on over there too.  :)

I should probably see if i can change that to "Honorary Moderator" as I'd be rather shocked if these forums became any more than a temporary hangout requiring any real moderators :).

Me too - What makes HC fun for me is the large amount of new people that pass though and no matter how bad it is they will still be over there and not over here :-\.

Really, whatever happens, I just hope that the Backstage community doesn't evaporate, wherever it goes. BWTB is a ghost town right now and it's actually making me pretty sad, even though I can't blame people for being negative about 2.0. The happenings have really made me realize what a great little ragtag gang we have.

They do seem to be improving HC bit by bit; so I'm trying to be hopeful people will come back when and if they make the site more appealing.

Did you try out those two mods I posted links for over in BWTB? The first one that nukes the ads makes it quite a bit faster and a bit less grating to the eyes. I tried the "skin" one and it was a bit too radical to me - probably because I loaded it in "fix the whole board" mode.

I actually am avoiding any fixes right now because I want to know what the site is actually looking like... even more than I want to spare my eyes.

Good point! The "AdBlocker" mod doesn't actually change the placement of anything or the colors. The only relief your eyes get from it is not having stoopid flash videos running on the right side of your screen  or fugly static ads here and there. It actually leaves the static google text ads at the bottom but those aren't annoying at all :).

I loved the humor and wit as well as some of the real honest opinions that were over on that "other" site.
I've been blessed with a band that seems to get along pretty well and generally is always headed in the same direction as far as new tunes and internal politics go.
No drama.

Regular reader of BWTB, occasional poster checking in.  I'm not one to bitch, but I did vote with my feet.

Visually, where HC is currently is so off the mark, it has to be a conscious decision.  Defaults for the bulletin board package aren't that bad.  Which makes me less encouraged that it'll get fixed.

BWTB is the one place on HC that I would visit regularly, since it was the only forum that I found that dealt with the working musician.  And, today, of all days, my band blew up...

BWTB was my fave forum there - it was the one that got me to join in the first place. Places like TGP or Rig Talk and such are all gear gear gear, and the Open Jam forum talks about pretty much everthing BUT music. No place seems to be a good place for sharing info between gigging musicians talking about the life and it's challenges and triumphs.

EDIT: I checked out the Music Players "Bandwidth" forum, going to register there and check it out to see if the convos and info is up to BWTB standards - but eeesh even HC 2.0 looks better to my eyes and is easier to read to me than that forum LOL.

I turned the AdBlocker on per your suggestion (Thanks!)... since I was already using Chrome. Much better. I've never posted all of my gear in my signature before... I always felt it was a little egotistical (no offense Rory)... but for some reason I now have an urge to do so to maybe spark some discussions about different gear. Thoughts?

As a general rule I've found that less gear and more practice is the key to sounding good :P.

HC is down for maintenance for a bit so maybe a few folks will stop by. Anderton did announce the downtime in a thread but there seems to be no way to announce anything systemwide yet :(. I was thinking of posting a headsup in BWTB but wasn't sure if that would violate the "No new HC 2.0 threads" policy?
Title: Re: HC 2.0 BWTB refugees check-in here!
Post by: Nobody Told Me on April 14, 2010, 02:07:47 AM
LOL, yeah, I accidentally violated that policy today.  Didn't really intend to.  Then by the time I realized my faux pas, I had done it again.

It is TOTALLY egotistical LOL

Actually I started doing it over at HC because in addition to BWTB, I also frequented the Electric Guitars forum and occasionally the Amps and Effects forums as well. It seemed to be the thing in those forums. It would spark discussions and in those forums, posters always took opportunities to discuss and 'show off' their gear - including posting tons of pictures of thier stuff. It's all in fun.

It's cool man. I wasn't trying to crush any complaining about 2.0 anywhere it happened, like as an aside in an on-topic thread.

It was just that it was too depressing to see nothing but "2.0 sucks" threads in my beloved BWTB for days in a row, while long-time members leave and on-topic threads fall off the page. (And there's like four forums for 2.0 feedback!) So I took it on myself to post some on topic stuff, then nix all the 2.0 threads and try to at least try to salvage what actual "Backstage" discussion is left. I don't like being heavy-handed but at some point we've gotta move on.

I know 2.0 sucks. I fucking hate it. But it's out of my control, so I'm just doing what I can to salvage the remains of BWTB.

Actually the post volume is now low enough "over there" that you can kinda follow it even without any indication of or ability to jump to what you haven't read. Anderton finally 'fessed up that those were never features in the new software so the lack thereof aren't bugs. After all the bugs are fixed they will decide what new features they will work on - so no guarantee that we will ever get "unread" indication or a way to jump to the unread posts in a thread :(. OTOH while they had the notification system up that worked to send you copies of everything new so you could follow along that way if you didn't mind the volume of emails - I actually liked it myself :).

Can I subscribe to threads here? I see an "unnotify" button that seems to imply that I am receiving notifications, but I'm not.

The "new & improved" HC doesn't seem to have that feature at all.  >:(

It's a mixed bag. Even though I hate the interface it I'm getting used to it. I certainly didn't think it was bad enough to just leave.

It's sort of getting better gradually... :-\

The "more like this" feature is cool, and I like that you can directly insert images and music from your computer.

Try "Profile", "Modify Profile", "Notifications". Change "For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me:" from "Instantly - but only for the first unread reply" to "Instantly" then "Save Settings" :). The default is to"Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic." but you can also change that here. When you go into a board (aka subforum) you can push "Notify" on the top to be notified of all new topics and messages posted to that board. Moderators might want to do that for any boards they moderate but anybody else can too. I presently have notify turned on for all the boards here so's I don't have to camp out here :).
