Takes a bit of finesse, but it's definitely doable. My R+B band won't ever be doing that, but my low volume project is looking like the PA will be the only thing the audience will hear. I'm thinking that might create some nice demos. Nice work on your part. Hope to hear some more soon.

Thanks, Brian. I didn't mean to mislead. The reverb was added in post. I record everything dry. With the exception of the vocals. I process those live on stage with a Digitech Live Vocalist 5. Here's another example of recording off the DL-1608 and the Vocalist 5, closer to the original post above. Just a nice acoustic performance. I record the guitar dry on one channel and the vocals the other, then combine the both in post to create the stereo mix. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0acWpOyLAUc

Ah. Got it. I've recorded our band's mix post DL1608 effects and did not get the sound you achieved. Your answer clears this up a bit. I've been pondering the idea of sending a FOH mix using an aux channel and mixing a recording track using the mains and recording that. Just not sure it's worth all the effort. Love my DL, just wish it had multitrack recording.

This is one case where wants don't meet the hardware. All the Studiolive units do multi-track recording. For that matter my Alesis MultiMix 16 provides 18 inputs of firewire tracks for my Macbook. I'm guessing that the hardware can't support multi-track recording on the DL. If it turns out to not be a hardware limitation, Master Fader upgrades in the future might bring it around. (Personally not expecting that.)

Best way to get a good recording is to run FOH off the auxes and use the main out for recording. You're still doing it on the fly but you can optimize the recording.... Like flattening the EQ and adjusting the faders so it's mixed will for the recording. If you just record the main mix chances are it's going to be heavy on vocals. If you're a full band the drums, especially kick, will likely be over the top.

Not a realistic scenario for me. The money maker is FOH and monitors.thatsnwhat the band , venue etc is paying me for. The recording is incidental. I've had a StudioLive 16.4.2 since Jan of 2009. I bought the Mackie in March of this year and haven't used the SL since. I'll probably use it a few times a year for multi-tracking.
