Title: IPods won't connect after 2.0 update
Post by: Sting on November 17, 2013, 07:56:02 AM
I had my first show tonight with 2.0 and could not connect our 2 iPods to the DL1608 network.  They connected fine before 2.0.  Our iPads and an iPhone connected and worked fine.  I verified that the iPods were updated.   Has anyone had thus happen yet?

Do you mean iPads? I used mine with MF2 for the first time last night, two iPads and all worked well. I was playing the opening set (Duo) and then mixing the headliners The Oldham Tinkers, (Oldham is a small town to the NE of Manchester England for those of you over the pond). I did have a moment where I thought one had not connected (it was showing the snapshot for the Duo) but I was in the middle of mixing the headliners show on the other one so I just shut it down. I didn't risk trying to load the correct snapshot in case I pressed the wrong button and sent t'other to the DL. At the interval I rebooted it and all was fine. One of the guys in the Tinkers is a retired BBC sound engineer and he was highly impressed with the DL.

No I mean 'iPod touches' 4th gen. Two guys use these on stage to run My Fader.  Worked great several times but won't connect after v2.0.

Only 5th generation on will handle iOS7. My guess is that since MyF won't work with newer MF the iPod will have similar problems.

You may be correct...you would think they would have been notified of incompatibility from the app store.

Are you sure you have a 2.4 GHz network? The iPad and newer iPhone have 5 GHz so maybe you only have that running? I'm pretty sure the apps work fine on iOS 6 - the original iPad can't be upgraded to 7.

I've just tried my iPod Touch 4G and my IPhone 4GS running 6.1.3 and 6.1.5 respectively, both seem to work fine but it took a bit of time to update the Touch to MyF2.

Guys I am running 5 ghz on an Apple Airport.  The IPods are running 6.1.3.  There were zero connectivity issues until My Fader 2.0.  Searching for a remedy and will contact Mackie  Monday

My iPad 1is on 5.1.1, iPhones on 6.01 and iPad mini on 7.03, all connect fine...:)
Is your router 2.4/5ghz selectable?

When I updated to IOS 7 the my fader app wouldn't connect anymore. I deleted the app and reinstalled and all was well. Give that a try.

Once again the subject of the thread is 'iPods not connecting'. There is no problem with iPads or iPhones.

Did you try all iPhone models including the older ones that don't support 5 GHz wireless? My best guess is your router somehow stopped working on 2.4 GHz and your older iPod Touch doesn't support 5 GHz.

Mackie suggests a forced firmware update on the DL1608.  We will see...

When you say they "won't connect", is your desk visible on the "devices" button on the setup page?

No the iPods see the Mackie network but when you type the password the ipod says unable to connect to the Mackie network.

So did you try deleting the myfader app on the ipod and reinstalling?

The two guys with the iPods live in Columbus.   I and the DL are in Sandusky. We will have to wait for next weeks practice to see if re installing MF will correct the problem.

FWIW, i just reflashed my mixer last night as it was a suggested  fix for my white noise blast issue. I will say I couldn't get it to screw up after I did it, but sometimes it takes 20 minutes of manipulating menus, etc so it's too early to say if it actually fixed it.

Maybe I've missed something here but doesn't that point directly at a router problem rather than a MF problem? Did you try a different router?

It could be, but could also just need reinstallation of myfader. After moving to IOS7 I had 5-6 shows in a row where both Ipads connected fine, but my phone wouldn't. Reinstalling MyFader fixed the problem instantly.

I forced a firmware update on the DL and re installed My Fader on the iPods.   They connected fine at practice so it looks like the problem is solved for now.  Thanks to all who posted.

Carry a spare board just in case.  Best way I know to prevent trouble.

I'm just looking around for a spare desk (I foolishly sold a Soundcraft SX20 when I bought the DL1608) as my 1202VLZ has too few mic inputs for most of what I do. I reckon I can manage with 10 or even 8 in a pinch but an old but serviceable 1604VLZ would be ideal. I don't want to spend more than about £150 as I fully expect it to never come out of the gig bag, sods law determining that the DL will only let me down if I don't have a backup

My point was if you're prepared, nothing fails.  (Obviously not true.)  Anyway, I carried a spare when I started gigging with the DL1608 and also when I updated the software.  So far, no issues affecting a gig with the Mackie.  I still have my MixWiz that's for sale.  (Not expecting to ever need the additional channels from that.  It has always been a solid mixer.)   I'm selling two of my QSC amps today.  (Going towards powered speakers from now on.)  Just more stuff that has never failed me.  I've got some large speakers that need a new home.  If I can't sell them the way they are, I'm pulling the drivers and putting them in my Kustom 250 guitar amp that I use for piano.  (RCF speakers.  Quite nice.)

We carry a Mackie analog board but it's not something that can be set up quick if the DL goes down.  But aside from an extra DL that's all that can be done just in case.
