Title: Use Ipad Without Internet
Post by: Weogo on July 05, 2014, 01:36:45 PM
HI Folks,

Fairly new DL1608 user here, though I have been using other digital mixers for over a decade.

I have a DL1608 connected to an Asus RT-AC66U router at a venue.  The router is not connected to the internet.
When I start up the Ipad it tries to connect to the internet, which it can't do.
Eventually I get the option of choosing   Use Ipad Without Internet,   and it works ok from there.

What do I do to get the Ipad to just connect to the router without an internet connection?

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

I honestly don't know.  I named my WiFi router NoInternetHere so people wouldn't bother trying to use it to get to the internet.  (And I stuffed a sizable passphrase on it too.)  I'm betting that you either allowed push notifications or have an app that wants to check in going on in the background.  I never allow push notifications.  (Started that because I wasn't sure what one was.  Have since decided it was a good idea to never allow them.)  Once you allow push notifications with an app, you can't turn it off.  (Or the only way to shut them down is so buried that even my Son doesn't know where it is.)  Might be able to delete an app then reinstall it without allowing push notifications.  (Not sure.  Probably should do an internet search on the subject.)

Here are the instructions to deal with the toy.

Thanks for the replies!

I think it must have something to do with my router, as when I used the AC66, I have issues.  When using an Asus RT-AC68 it works fine.
Am going to see what a router forum has to say.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

I had a problem with my iPad2/iOS7 which repeatedly asked me to connect to the internet for something (sorry, can't remember the precise details but it required my iTunes password which it then said was incorrect) and wouldn't let me actually use the device, the nag screen came up within a split second on every re-boot and refused any other access. It was the first time I had used it away from my home wi-fi since updating to iOS7. When I got home it connected to my home wi-fi, did whatever it was asking to do automatically and was fine from then. I normally have automatic updates turned off but maybe I hadn't got that far as I only use the iPad2 with the DL. I will try it before the next gig on Saturday :)

Now that sounds like it was looking to connect up with the cloud.  Are you keeping either pictures or worse, music in the cloud?   That would cause all of your issues.  If the music is all on the ipad as well as everything else, it should stop looking for cloud access.  (Internet access.)  I'm pretty sure you can shut down the cloud access in the settings app.  I can't put all my music on either of my ipads, so I've selectively put music on leaving a lot of working space.  You can select what music is loaded up on the ipad while it's docked in itunes.  You will need to resync after making changes.  I'm currently not keeping anything in the cloud except for syncing my schedule.  I've got to make changes for my motorcycle trip so I have an iphone and ipad backup in the cloud.  (Temporary situation.)

Yes that was it, I don't keep music in the cloud but do sync my calendar, contacts and so on. The issue was it wouldn't connect via my iPhone's mobile data, just kept saying the (correct) password was wrong and then asking to connect again. Because the nag screen kept on coming up I couldn't get into the iPad settings to turn the cloud off. Fortunately I had both iPads with me so the show could go on. It was my open mic night so no problem but it would have been very frustrating on a bigger gig.
