Title: Master Fader 3.0 Public Beta Test
Post by: beno on November 10, 2014, 04:09:42 PM
Hello All,
We are nearing the release of Master Fader 3.0. As such we are looking for a few brave users to help us test the final release. This public beta will help ensure that the upgrade and Show/Snapshot translation is working properly. With so many different combinations of parameters in your Shows/Snapshots, we want to be sure they update properly and work as expected in 3.0.

Here are the details:
* We will only be accepting 100 testers at this time. First come, first served. In exchange, you will get to use Master Fader 3.0 for a week or two longer than everyone else.
* The Public Beta version will be the same build we plan to submit to Apple for release. This release candidate has already been throughly tested internally and with our private beta testers.
* However, this is still a Beta and it is possible there are undiscovered issues. There are no guarantees it won't completely erase your Shows, Snapshots, or Presets.
* With the number of testers, we will not be able to provide individual support. If 3.0 gives you issues, you will likely need to revert back to 2.1.1 and which may cause you lose your Shows, Snapshots and Presets unless you restore your iPad. We will do our best to help as much as possible but Tech Support will not be able to assist.
* After updating, you will need to email a report on how the update went and any issues you discovered.
* You will not be able to use My Fader 2 with Master Fader 3.0 and we will not be Beta Testing My Fader 3.0 at this time.
* We will be using the new Apple Test Flight system which requires iOS8 (Master Fader 3.0 works on iOS7.1 but this Beta won't). Once registered with Test Flight, you will be able to access Master Fader 3.0 on other iPads that use the same Apple ID.
* You cannot discus Master Fader 3.0 publicly until it is officially released.

So if you are still interested, send an email to BetaRequest@dlseries.zendesk.com with the following information.
* First and Last Name
* Email - This needs to be an email you can access on an iPad you will use for testing
* iPad model(s) you will be using for testing

If you are accepted, you will receive an email with further instructions soon. For those not testing or chosen, don't worry, Master Fader 3.0 is right around the corner for all.

Thank's in advance for your assistance.

Ben

Ben:
You may want to select some testers that have frequent "white noise" on their system.

Just want to thank everyone again. At this point, we don't need anymore public Beta Testers but you can all enjoy the benefits of Master Fader 3.0 soon when it is released.

Hey Beno, I may have missed any "official" word on this in all the white noise in the forums, but will MF3 run on an original iPad running iOS 5.1.1? Alternately, will it be possible to use a mix of older and newer iPads with MF 2.1 and 3?

Thanks!

Master Fader 3.0 requires iOS7.1 so it will NOT work with iPad 1.

Just guessing from the MF 2 upgrade.  It wouldn't allow a mixing of MF 1.x and MF 2.x.  Each Master Fader pushed out it's own firmware onto the mixer.  When I upgraded to MF 2.0 I warned my bandmates at the time to upgrade and one hadn't.  He couldn't use his ipad until he upgraded to MF 2.0.

Just like all the previous builds you cannot mix and match versions so all your iPads will need to updated to 3.0 so if you need to still use an iPad, they will all need to stay on Master Fader 2.1.1.

Also of note when Master Fader 3.0 is released this week, My Fader 3.0 is not ready for release and My Fader 2.0 will NOT work with Master Fader 3.0. So if you need to continue to use My Fader on an iPhone or iPod touch, you'll want to not upgrade and stick with Master Fader 2.1.1 a little longer. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Master Fader 3.0 release is this week, My Fader 3.0 (what I asked about) is "a little longer", just looking for a bit tighter of an estimate

Don't have a good estimate now but it is will definitely not be in November. Our goal is December but no guarantees.

Convince your bandmates to get an ipad mini.  Problem solved.  I've gotten addicted to using OnSong for charts and lyrics.  And for all those complaints about music stands onstage, the ipad mini attached to a mic stand is barely noticeable.  I actually hadn't noticed the ipad mini that a hard rock group of a friends was using to mix on their DL1608.  It was in the front of the stage.  (typical rock lighting.)  Personally I don't mind music stands, but an ipad will hold more music and be easier to carry around.  The books have gotten pretty large.  (And you can run Master Fader or My Fader on it.  I've tried both in the past.)  Maybe one day I'll need to have two ipad minis.  One for the mixer and one for my charts.

Ah yes, just in time for NAMM 2015. You don't suppose  we could get a Christmas present? What about the "white noise" issue, is it solved or at least identified?

I've not seen the recording interrupted by a "disconnect" unless you unplug the iPad to try to "fix" it? But I'm using Voice Record Pro, not the Master Fader "recorder".

No, sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm still on MF2.1, I use this thing to earn my living and will wait until others check out MF3.0. I don't often dock since mine has the white noise problem and I'm trying not to loose my clients! Just did it the other night as the band wanted a recording, didn't realise until then that I had the sync problem as well. Other recordings have gone OK in the past, but I don't often do it. I don't have the time or inclination to do Mackie's job for them. I just need it to work properly. Apart from these problems I am very happy with it after 18 months intensive use. I should add that when I say docked it was in fact with my mini connected with the apple lightning to 30 pin connector. This config has also never yet had the white noise problem, that was with my iPad3 docked normally.

Back to the OP's title and request. The way I read this it is a early release of a Public Beta of MF3.0 for 100 testers. Beta testing (my XP days for M$) that I'm aware of requires at least a month or more and trouble reports are then processed and problems fixed for a final Release Candidate. Since the request was made on 11/10/14 and the MF 3.0 App was posted on 11/17/14 that leaves 7 days 5 of which are Apple processing for the App store. I doubt if any changes (show stoppers) for your efforts are included as eluded to. So what was released is a PUBLIC BETA and should be treated as such. No respected company would put out a product without the documentation for the product, none exists as of this post further reinforcing the fact that this is a PUBLIC BETA treat it as such. As it turns out debug code is in this version (now being indicated as a Dropbox problem) which can certainly slow response times.

Update there is now a manual, congrats Mackie.
