Does anyone have the DL1608 iPad Air Tray kit and using it with an iPad Air 2. Just received my iPad Air 2 which is a bit thinner (and lighter) than the iPad Air. Worried that it will float a bit in the Air Tray kit.
-
This is my doubt also!
-
I'm going the other way, trying to mod one of the older trays so I don't have to take my Air out it's case. Think I'll have to grind some of the dock away, though.

what about just leaving the ipad in its case and using a dock extender cable?
that's how i do it, but with a 30-pin ipad 3 into a 30-pin 1608; the cablejive 2' cable works perfectly, and i can just set the ipad case and all on top of the mixer when i'm not using it wireless.
does anybody know if a lightning extender cable works for this?
like say this one (http://www.cablejive.com/products/dockXtender.html)?
-
It should, but there is a length issue I recall seeing somewhere. The lightning connectors aren't keyed like the 30 pin ones are.
-
The question is whether Mackie will launch a tray kit for the iPad air 2.
-
Might be a moot point if I move to the DL32R.
-
I use a 6ft lightning to USB connector without any issues so I would assume the lightning-f to lightning-m shouldn't either, like this one http://www.fasttech.com/product/1295802-lightning-8-pin-to-lightning-m-f-extension-cable or the one Walter suggested but lightning to lightning instead.

Lightning is an active cable. There's circuitry in there. I would expect extending it to introduce all sorts of variables. From WK's sync issues around extension cables, the DL seems to be very sensitive to that sort of thing.
Of course, for $6 that extension is likely just wires through, so it might work. Not going to be the one that tests it.
-
It definitely does not line up, I taped 2 layers of 60 mil Duradek exterior vinyl deck covering which brings it up about right but it's still sloppy in the side rails.
-
The active electronics in the sync/charging cable must be duplicated in the DL connector board so an extension (assuming good quality and not too long) should be just wires.

I guess I will just order the iPad Air docking kit and use my iPad Air (32GB) docked and my iPad Air 2 (128GB) as my remote unit. May not make sense if I end up with the DL32R and sell the DL1608.
-
Do you often find yourself using both a docked and wireless iPad for control simultaneously?

I certainly do. Sitting at the mixer, all channels with no scrolling.
-
That's a pretty darn slick idea. Banked for the future.
-
Hadn't thought about that. I fine myself using my ipad mini remotely and leaving my ipad 2 docked. When gigging on keys, the docked ipad gets the workout and the mini gets used for OnSong charts.

More good money after bad? See you soon. At least wait until after NAMM.
-
Pretty negative WK. So far most are pretty happy with their DL32Rs. But if I were purchasing very soon, I'd wait until after NAMM and see what kind of vaporware is coming sometime, maybe even this year. Dean did have one with a problem, but Mackie looks like they're out to replace that unit quickly. (That also lets them figure out why his unit was bad and see if some changes need to be made in manufacturing.)
-
Just wait for the 4u 19 inch ipad to arrive,
It's the future,

Always have one docked and one for remote, but that's a very good idea when running multiple channels and not having to swipe to access them all the time. :thu: :thu:

Taking that to the DL32R extreme would mean having 4 ipads for all 32 channels. This idea might help me with my senior's variety show this May. This year they won't be using the clubhouse auditorium, so I will be using the DL1608 and not Heather Garden's StudioLive 24.4.2 mixer. (I lose the EAW installed speakers too, but that's really not a problem. Heather Garden's installed PA is pretty nice.)

Or 2 iPad Pros. ;) If and when they materialize, of course. :)

Or you can leave Mackie and pick up a product that fits your needs and there are plenty out there at this point for $2400 or less. Oh unless you're a Mackoid.
-
Is there a 32 fader desk for under $2400?
-
Did I mention my cheap streak?

Best as I can figure my X32 (new) ran $2230 a year ago. Bundled with cases and S16.

Close but it only has 25 faders
