I'm Sorry Can I come Home Now? X18 subject
« on: July 02, 2015, 06:20:50 PM »
Hey All

Well I'm back.  I gave my Behringer X18Air 3 gigs but lost my trust in it.  When it worked I liked it more that the Mackie.  Why you ask well the form factor was great, tiny enough to the the stage box.  I teamed it with my Mac Air WAP and all seemed well.  Then it got slow and would just lock up.  I could deal with this in my low key 4 piece band but when I started doing bigger jobs that needed me out front I just didn't trust it so after hours of trying to find the solution I have decided to return it.  I have 3 days left to do so.  Got out 1608 and did some more learning on the new (to me OS) and it is still solid so I trust it.  Also I noticed the iPhone app has been updated now too.

Easy as that.

In the end I mean no slander or ill will to Behringer or uses of the product.  Just didn't feel safe with it.

Chris

Just curious if you were trying to use the built-in "toy" wireless or had the same issues with an external 5GHz solution?

I never could get why the audio equipment "engineers" design in EOL (end of life) product into their new "toys". Are they that far behind in learning new technology? Case in point the Ethernet chips for 10/100/1000 are cheaper than the 10/100 EOL product. The wireless radio for 802.11n again same or cheaper than 802.11b/g. Is this just another way to design in obsolescence?

"802.11n" doesn't equate with 5GHz - I have a MIMO 802.11n router that's 2.4 GHz only ...

I'm aware of that but n would have gone a long way (MIMO) and 5 gig is not excluded either.

Yes MIMO is a great improvement all by itself in range and interference rejection :) .

Welcome back! I'm sure you're aware, but if you want ultimate performance and simple functions, the Classic version 3.0 software is now available for both Master Fader and My Fader.

A little confused ? The Master fader Classic is v2.1.1 as of today and many moons ahead.

As my OP stated I used my Mac air 5gig router for the Behringer as well.  Did a big gig last night as foh and the DL1608 was flawless.

It wasn't clear from your OP if the Mac Air was connected to the mixer or a PC (using the Mac Air to connect to the Behringer's cheaparse wireless)

Hi there. with a decent router or even hardwired to a laptop  it is a brilliant bit of kit, and unlike the Dl, supported on many platforms.

Did you use an AirPort Extreme router or express, the latter is an awful bit of kit I think where x users are concerned. I binned mine.

Cheers

Kev
