Missing channels on recording on DL1608
« on: July 20, 2015, 01:30:07 PM »
I was so happy to see the patch feature on the newest MasterFader 3.x
We are a 4 piece band.
4 vocals mics
1 acoustic guitar
1 Electric guitar mic'd from the amp
1 cajon mic'd
1 electric bass with a di feed from the amp

I reduce the fader from the electric guitar and bass to the mains as we are a pub band and there is enough coming out of the amps to balance FOH.

I have just tried twice to record from AUX6 without success.
1st time got only one mic and the acoustic guitar but all I had done was a quick earphone level check.
2nd time one of the guys plugged his in-ears to AUX6 and adjusted levels till he heard everything well.

Again, all that came out on the recording was the same mic and acoustic guitar.
All channels are set to pre-fader
What am I doing wrong?

That's worked fine for me - although I usually use a pair of auxes for stereo. Are you sure you patched aux 6 to both the left and right record? Double check it all at a rehearsal :) .

I double and triple checked that AUX6 was the source.
That's what is making me crazy, it should be fine. Especially after an in-ear monitor was used to listen to it.

Are you set to pre-fader on all channels?

Not sure what you mean by that - unlike other mixers you can't choose pre or post per channel :( yet :) ?. I record from two auxes both set pre. I normally use aux 6 for the subs so have to use 3 and 4 for a stereo pair, leaving me only three monitor mixes :( . I wish there was a "phantom" stereo bus just for recording :) ? Those of us not recording or using the solo system could also use that for an additional stereo IEM mix or to feed an iPad based FX too  ? I suspect that would be an easy addition to the firmware and MasterFader 8) ?

Above the main fader of each Aux is a button to select pre-fader, post-fader or preDSP.
Are yours set to pre or post on the AUX channel you send to record?

Sorry, I am a little confused.
Are you saying that you cannot choose pre/post individually for each channel?
The manual, and the device imply different

You cannot choose pre/post individually for each INPUT channel on an aux - you can choose pre or post on all the channels together per aux OUTPUT.  For instance, this is a PITA when you only have one reverb ;) and want the vocals post - but the horns and snare need to be pre as they may not have much or any "dry" sound needed in the PA so their main faders may be "off" or very low. I run my one lonely reverb pre and just live with the limitation (for now :) ?) .

Fair enough but if I set the AUX6 as post-fader and send that to the recorder, it SHOULD record what I have set each channel to right?
That is what the original problem is. It seems to get only 2 channels

As I implied, you're going to have to go through and check it out NOT at a gig. You might want to also try linking aux 5 & 6 as a stereo pair and routing those L & R for recording. You might be the only person to ever try recording a single aux and maybe that doesn't work ?

Oh, and are you QUITE sure you selected AUX 6 and not MIC PRE 6 or some other such thing? Which two number channels do you get?

I triple checked and I am absolutely selecting AUX6 routed to record, both L and R

I am getting Ch1 and Ch13 but am using 1,2,3,4,7,8,13 and 16

Is there any aux at all that only has channel 1 and 13 "up"?

If you route aux6 to record l+r , set aux6 to post fader ,set all aux6 faders at 0 you should get a copy off your l+r mix , then you can adjust the mix to taste  :)
If in doubt ask

That was my problem.  AUX6 was set to pre-fader
