Still a DL1608 Happy Camper!
« on: September 20, 2015, 09:05:30 PM »
NOTE: This is my personal take on this particular DL. Thought a positive spin might be nice for a change.

I haven’t used this DL1608 since the last concert at the school in June 2015 and having just said that...

I just fired up the DL to test all the gear before my concerts at the school and church dinner next week. OMG the mixer is so clean to my ears. No issues whatsoever. I’m once again blown away by the sound quality. No hiss, nothing. I am playing through my Yorkie PS12P powered cabs.

With little or no EQ tweaking in MF, everything sounds so HI-FI. I am playing the iPod Touch 5th Gen using AirPlay from the AP Express Router, audio out L&R into Ch. 15 & 16. Oh I am testing with 256 Kbps MP3 files.

I did not upgrade the iPad Air 2 to iOS 9 and MF is still at 3.2.1. I am glad that this particular mixer is still running a treat after 3 years. Not even going to try to convince the school to move to another mixer. I guess this old adage still applies:

I'm also very happy with the mixer and the current version of Master Fader.  I went ahead on upgraded everything.  Haven't tested it yet, but I don't know when my next use will occur.

Does the 1608 have the same mic pres as the DL32R? I love the crisp, clean sund of my DL32R. It's the best sounding mixer I've ever owned.

I think the DL32R has a slightly different version of the Onyx pre-amps to allow the remote control element, though I would expect that change has little effect on the audio path.

Likewise, still happy and still going strong after more than 3 years of ownership.

KM, just to be sure, your personal hands on experiences with any DL series mixer has been only with others available for you to utilize ?

Just sold my 1608 to help pay for my new dl32r....   I loved the 1608! Hated to part with it as it performed so well over hundred shows. The only issue I ever had was the syncing issue and that was not horrible in comparison to what other digital mixer owners experience!

Yes, the preamps wee great. Better than my Heath and Allen console by far. Crisp and clean.

I still use one at a permanent install.

Hi James:

I recommended this one to the school I’ve been doing audio work for 11 years now. So I pretty much have exclusive use of this mixer full time, in lieu of payments, volunteer work in other words, so it’s pretty much mine to use when I need it. No one else at the school has the chops to really run or set up a sound system. So it never gets used except by myself.

Having said that, my experience with this one has been excellent.  ;)

What model of "Heath & Allen" was that? ;)
The older I get, the better I was!

I did try in the past to copy the entire " my music" folder from one laptop to another to sync with my pad, which had had relationships with both laptops in the past, let's just say that was one weekend of heartache that I will never attempt again,

Some guys say that the apps are just zips and they should be interchangeable, deletable and restorable, I am just not competent enough to argue,

I do know this, a bloke who created the app " one track " asked me to beta test a new version, I downloaded it off his server and placed it in a folder on the computer, and when I synced my pad, I had the old and the beta versions on my pad, so what the hell is going on, if it worked for his app, why can't behringer and mackie offer a download or just have 3 versions of the apps by date etc on the App Store?

Cheers

Kev

Beta testers can download apps directly but, apparently, Apple App Store rules don't allow a programmer to distribute an app this way. Mackie/Behringer would probably not want to risk incurring the "Wrath Of The Fruit".

It is possible (as us Mackoids know) to have different versions in the app store simultaneously but, now the upgrade has taken place Berry will have to resubmit X32-Mix 2.2.2 as, say, X32-Mix lite or something (maybe X32-Mix 2.4.1?). Mackie did that with Master Fader Classic but it did take a few weeks and Berry may have the patch for V2.3 sorted by then.

The world is mad, in every little part of our lives. we are all victims of control freaks it seems.

Death tax and iOS updates. There is no escape.

Sorry but, you can cheat death, you can fiddle your tax, but iOS updates and apples strong hold over the way we use products we paid for, well I am not so sure,

It seems like they are calling the shots, I have never wondered about it until Sam spoons brought it up, the distribution of  iOS apps, even if they are free, only through apples outlet, not via an email or download from the bloke who owns and created the app. Incredible when you think about it.
