Can you hook up lap top to DL-1608 ?
« on: May 26, 2016, 04:14:51 AM »
I have the iPad doc to the 1608 and now I would like to hook up a computeror or Iphone to the mixer to play music files from iTunes, garage band etc. but I am having issues.
When i tried, the music sounds bad and you can hardly hear vocals.

I ran a cable from computer 1/8 from the headphones. I ran it to ch16. no luck sounds bad
I tried running it into ch15 and 16 with a splitter thinking that was the issue, still no luck sounds bad.
When I plug the phone or computer direct to amp it sounds great.

What am I doing wrong? I really am trying to play along with some backing tracks and run everything through the mixer to have control but as mentioned it sounds bad.

You can email direct if you want.

Thanks for your help

You must use this cable:

Or one of these if mono is OK:

Better yet, pick up a Peavey USB-P. Gives you 2 XLR outs from a USB connection, bypassing your headphone amp and any questionable A/D converters in your computer. Also has a true Merge mono feature. At approx. $65 worth having. I've also found the USB connection is more secure than the 1/8" headphone mini jack.

If you "can't hear the vocals" they are prob panned either side of center and the connect(s) you are using are not picking up both stereo channels.   Try either of these radial boxes

More likely that he is using a stereo mini lack to a TRS ¼" which would send the left channel to the hot and the right channel to the cold, as these have opposite phase they will centre cancel the stereo signal thus losing the vocals. But, in this case the OP explained that he used a splitter lead and was still having the same issues to it isn't that.

Could be he's using a stereo "Y" cord and thinks it's a splitter cord?

True enough :D

The good old stereo vs balanced rears it's ugly head again I suspect..... I've spent endless hours trying to explain this to a drummer friend over the years.....
