Opposite of "freezing up"
« on: July 24, 2016, 10:29:56 PM »
The last week has been crazy hot here in Cleveland...and no I'm not talking about the RNC convention.

I have had 3 outdoor shows and had iPad, I phone, router issues all weekend!
Router was shutting down from heat and with the DL32 that's a real issue, since there is no way to connect a iPad direct to it. We had to stow it under a rack case, with a fan to cool it down.
Lesson learned,- fan and shade right from the beginning!
Another reason I really think there should be a direct USB connector to the DL. So if the router dies there is a means of control. Maybe not remote, but I'll take it in a pinch anytime.

Stage iPhones and my iPad for main mix were shutting down on overheat and were a constant battle.
Kept stage fans blowing on stupid iPhones while band members suffered.

Don't think this was such a great idea, but I took a cold damp towel (not wet) and put it on a rack lid with my iPad on top. It kept the bottom of the iPad cool and we had no shut downs the rest of the afternoon. Other than the towel dripping onto my legs, it seemed to help.
Usually I can find a shady spot to mix from, but that was just not an option this weekend. I just bought a folding chair with a built in canopy to help with the direct sun and  I think I'm going to order one of those little battery powered fans with the wet pad inside that is supposed to blow cool air  and see if that gets me thru the rest of the years outdoor shows.

I have an easy-up type of canopy that I use for shows that will be outdoors during daylight hours. It keep me, and my iPad cooler.

Old news as you can see here.

BenO also promised to let us all know when their method would be published, so much for his word.

P.S. but it won't help with any heat issues.

I've seen the past post on this, and I guess your right that there is a way to hook it up.
Do I really want to screw around with adapters, camera cords, etc., not really.
It would just have been so easy , insightful and convenient to just put a stupid USB port on the mixer

"...screw around with adapters, camera cords..."
I don't know - I set up 18 mics, a drum snake, 6 monitors in addition to FOH.  Adding two little white connectors to that list is way down in the noise of what I'm concerned about.
