Android Master Fader V5.0 experiences
« on: December 29, 2018, 04:56:12 AM »
As the title indicates this post is about the Android version of Master Fader V5.0 and nothing else! Other versions (iOS, Mac, Windows) will post separately.
For those of you not in the Software industry a few points of history. Android was specifically designed for the ARM processor platform and currently owned by Google and open-sourced. The
development platform as is common on most software developments may not be run on the actual target processor. This has been nothing "exotic or unconventional" as some of you
imply, since the mid 1960. Mackie's and Apple's development platform has been the macOS (Intel based) for iOS (ARM based) as an example. Emulators have been around for almost
as long as a part of the overall development IDE. Android was also ported to the x-86/64 bit Intel platform before the 64bit ARM processor.
Since the Android OS allows additions and customization many versions exist (a major criticism of Google for not controlling it better). Apps need to be aware of features that
may be missing or different across the various releases by manufacturers which makes third party app development a challenge. It is however the most used OS in the world.

Here is the list of problems that Mackie is aware of.

Good Luck with that!

Bugs found by users.
BlueStacks V4 emulator does not run Master Fader V5.0. or 5.0.1
Felix with very little info claims that Snapshots don't work.
saulknecht with little info claims that landscape view under V6.0 has missing info.
Both would do better with more specific info for validation by others.
Omissions from V4.6.2 also exist such as input switch  A/B in record.

Just a note that Android is mostly a port of Linux. I have a Chromebook that runs ChromeOS but can also run Android and Linux apps - all basically the same OS :) .

I was wondering if Master Fader would run on a Chromebook.  They aren't listed, so I've been guessing the answer should be no.

Google's long term goal is to merge the two OS's. So far it's taken a while.

Newer Chromebooks can run Android apps from the app store - I haven't tried Master Fader as my Chromebook doesn't have  touch screen ...

No MacBooks have touch screens.  I can use the Beta with the touch pad.  So I'd suggest loading MF 5.0.2 into your chromebook just to see if the obvious things work fine.  Inquiring minds want to know.
