NAMM 2019 and Mackie
« on: January 13, 2019, 05:38:50 AM »
In 12 days it's once more time to look at all the MI (Music Industry) has to offer. Aside from the DRM line by Mackie will the long awaited Master Fader V5.1.0 arrive for their customers or will they only show the beta at their booth? Conspicuously absent for the second year in the row of course is the "Tribe"  :). Where is the claimed replacement for NAMM it was supposed to be Music Tribe demo sites that apparently never materialized. Must be short on cash  :)

Well if you want cake and meet Greg Mackie then Thursday only in Room 201D  at 5:30 PM you're welcome as long as you have a ticket for the exhibits. Still no clue about MF 5.1. Five days to go the suspense is killing  :).

Here we are on opening day of 2019 NAMM. Eight hours to go. Mackie will probably only show their DL16/32S mixers with the recent software. The latest update schedule put an end to speculation about MF V5.1 which is now scheduled for July of 2019. It was originally announced in June of 2018 can you say Vaporware  ;D. What was the purpose of this? Try to affect the sales of the other companies that have multi-platform control programs? I think it backfired on them with Uli (Music Tribe) lowering their price on the XR18 to almost half of the DL16's  ;D . This year is clearly not the year for mixers but more Guitars and Synths at NAMM.

My Wife’s company with very conservative scheduling of software releases, only meets those schedules about 75% of the time. (Well known National Corporation.) So in my mind Mackie’s scheduling seems to be created by people who don’t understand the complexity that they are trying to accomplish.

Now that NAMM is over and nothing spectacular in the mixer world appeared let me point out a new phenomenon from Mackie. They've certainly provided amplifiers in many speaker products and some past stand-alone's but this I couldn't believe. They introduced the MX series of amplifiers, MX2500 and MX3500 but you can't buy them in the US, Canada or China! So do we have to buy them from Mexico (MX)? More creative Mackie Marketing  I'm not making this up it's on their website.  They are meant for their NAMM 2019 introduced DRM passive speaker series

Update:  Found them on Thomann USA web site. A European source for a US company? Next we'll have to go to Jakarta for Mackie gear.

The mystery unfolds with the Spec sheet and it states:
"Robust, impact-resistant, all-steel 2U rackmount chassis Not available in USA, Canada, China, Japan and other 100 – 120V countries"
MX2500: ~230–240VAC, 50–60 Hz, 500W @ 8 Ω
MX3500: ~230–240VAC, 50–60 Hz, 1000W @ 8 ΩAC Connector: 3-pin IEC
What a brilliant piece of engineering by Mackie   . Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

It's possible that the USA has no demand for their passive speakers so they didn't bother with a US model of the amps?
