UWB the lost audio solution
« on: June 24, 2020, 03:38:02 AM »
UWB or Ultra Wide Band communications technology was once aimed at multimedia market and is now focused on location applications unfortunately. If you have a iPhone 11 you may not be aware that the U1 chip is a UWB chip. Apple has not mentioned it's future intended use but iOAS14 may be its first use. It is also being used in industry for locating items and recently for social distancing alarms. Bluetooth, WiFi and Ethernet have captured that market for now. It will take quite an effort to unseat the current technologies but for audio in a 30 - 50 ft. range it certainly outperforms Bluetooth for audio.  Transmission speed is max 27Mbps vs 2Mbps for Bluetooth. Range could go to a max of 750 ft. Latency is less than 1 ms a big advantage. A more detailed overview is here.
