Great job setting up this forum :thu:... I had been using Mackie's forum (up until it shutdown) after purchasing my DL1608 (a little over a month ago)... I saw the link to this forum posted on Mackies Facebook page...since then this has been a Very informative and helpful resource...these forums are very imperative with a product such as the 1608...it has saved me from, what could have been, some aggravating gig nights!
Cheers!

The only other forum I'm a regular on is the Carvin Guitars community. They are very friendly, helpful, and civil over there. When I first started on the Mackie forum I was surprised to see how testy people were, and how many slammed the host company!

On the Carvin forum you can constructively criticize products (and they have a lot, between instruments and pro audio), and work through problems, but you can't rip the company! The moderators will delete your posts and eventually kick ya off, if your a troublemaker. Mackie had looked like they lost control of the community, with too many posts outright slamming their products and organization. You can't do that to your host, that's for the independent forums and troll havens.

Highly unlikely. Mackie's whole web presence and that of their parent company went dark for almost a week. Thats not a defensive move - thats a colossal screwup. I'm not saying that we shouldnt be civil,  but we shouldnt be afraid to call it like we see it either. If you did something lame (not that you would), would you want your friends to tell you to your face or only talk about it when you are not around? I was a lurker on the old DL forum and yeah, there was a small minority of testy people, but if I had put a deposit on a DL last February with the expectation of getting one of the first units, only to see the release date keep getting pushed back month after month after month, I'd be mighty testy as well.

I'm really liking my DL and would not go back to my old 24-4 board even if I could (which I cant, because I sold it - that's how much I like the DL). Having said that, there are still a few things that are annoying to deal with in a modern $1500 (w/iPad and router) mixer. For example, Mackie loves their iconic 'rude solo button' feature - but the only thing 'rude' about the solo on the DL is that its only accessible through the headphones.

In their defense us users specifically requested the "rude solo" feature be added and i think their addition of the "push to cancel all solos" is awesome :) . As to sending the solo to the iPad I don't think that is possible without significant latency and with the loss of the record "feature". It's easy enough to plug in some cheap wireless headphones or an IEM system if you really want this. If there is an issue I think I need to fix I'll walk up to the DL1608 sidestage and do it there anyways :) . OTOH my last gig in a stoopid small room required me to place the DL1608 where I couldn't access it without standing in front of the band  so I just set the trims and didn't do any fine tuning thereafter that required soloing. A lot of tweaking is done more out of boredom than necessity anyways ;) .
