You can see the iPad just fine if that's what your asking. I have run sound with the dl in the direct sun on a hot Florida day. What I do was put my car windshield reflector over it and it worked great. Keeps it nice and cool, well, not boiling hot. If there was no cover over it I can almost guarantee it would have shut down.
