Curing wire rattles?
« on: March 12, 2014, 04:30:23 PM »
Hi all,

New here and have a question I hope someone can help with.  My band uses JBL PRX612Ms over PRX618s and when testing the 612s without the subs, I heard what sounded like a blown woofer.  On closer physical examination, the driver seemed fine but I noticed that the wires that go to the power LED on the front of the grille were resting against the edge of the driver.  I removed the grille and disconnected the wire and tested the speaker again -rattle gone.

I want to wrap the wire in something soft/fuzzy so that if it touches the driver it won't rattle.  Thoughts?

Thanks!

Greg C.

You need to figure out how get the wire to not come into contact with the driver at all. Even with something like foam wrapped around it, there will still be audible noise that will mimic distortion. I don't know the wire routing, but if it's design issue JBL should have known better. But there are a lot of those boxes in the field so it's probably just a simple issue.
