Charging a completely discharged iPad
« on: July 08, 2014, 04:45:14 PM »
Turns out it takes about an hour before the iPad will charge enough to "boot up" when docked - not something one wants to discover at a gig :( .

That doesn't sound right.  Seems to me it normally only takes about 5 minutes, but you have to hold down the on/off switch on the end of the unit for about 2 seconds to get it to turn on.  You are docking the ipad and turning the mixer on first, aren't you?  (And don't even think about using the USB connector on an Airport Express.  There's basically no power there at all.  It's a pretty good way to kill off the last of a battery powered device.)  Because I don't want to be locked into a docked ipad, I make sure it's fully charged before a gig.

Although good and dead an hour seems too long before it will power up. Not sure what the charge wattage is on the DL but I do know it's 10W with Apples charger. If it's less on the DL then that would make sense, Yes?

What a nightmare! I carry my iPad charger in my gig bag. A completely dead iPad will turn on in just a few minutes with the right charger.

Hi Folks,

My Ipad doesn't charge in the dock at all.
Is the proper sequence to turn on the mixer, and then slide in the Ipad?
Do I need to re-boot the Ipad?

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Li batteries are finicky creatures and need special charging techniques. A deeply discharged cell will require a trickle charge until it reaches a certain voltage before a heavier charge can be applied. Apple follows this procedure. If you want the nitty gritty details read this.

It's not a good idea to subject them to too many deep discharges, it shortens battery life.
Weogo you have a DL problem if your iPad charger works just fine. No special sequence required other than power on the DL.

Hi WK154,

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the Apple charger works fine.

I'll contact Mackie about this.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo
