1980's Squier Tele - Value?

(1/1)

monthlymixcd:
I shoulda snapped a pic but there's a Squier Telecaster at a pawn shop near work for $270 that they'd take $200+tax for... is it worth it? In short, it had an E****** serial number (So 1980's, right?) with Made in Japan on the front of the headstock all maple skunk-stripe neck w/ walnut plug at nut and truss rod adjustment at heel, black body w/ single ply black p-guard and standard tele pickups. Nice weight and neck was straight as an arrow. Tophat switch tip with chrome hardware in great shape w/ graph-tech saddles... probably stock otherwise. Non-original case. I'm guessing a 1980's Squier version of a 50's Tele. Seems like a deal at 2 bills... thoughts???

EDIT: nevermind... found this one that is nearly identical save for the different pickguard and saddles:

Is that pretty much the going rate? Others have similar Teles for sale on eBay with starting bids or BIN prices of $400-$570!

I'm no expert but I do know that Japanese Squier Strats from '80 - '82 were awesome guitars and were generally superior to the American Fenders of the time in a lot of peoples' eyes.

In your shoes I'd go play it, and then decide if it's worth $200 to you.

Good luck with it anyway.  :thu:
