Upgrade process to migrate from an 806 to a 1608
« on: April 25, 2015, 12:40:29 AM »
Long time 806 user in my personal band.  Finally needed to up the channel count.  So I have a 1608 in bound.  When it arrives, I need to
1. Make sure the firmware is up to date
2. Move my shows. Over to the new mixer.

I'm running MF 3.02

What is the best approach ?

TIA, Mal

I'm not sure you can move your shows over.  Seems to me some 1608 user wanted to do that with a DL32R and couldn't.  The firmware update will happen anyway.  (Has to match the version of Master Fader you're using.)

Let us know if there is a way to move the shows over.

Best approach is to back them up by exporting the shows and emailing them to yourself, then when you get the 1608 connect the iPad to it, let it sync and try loading a show. If it all gets messy, you at least have the back up to use with the 806. Fingers crossed for you.

I'd have thought 806 shows would migrate to a 1608 without trouble, and with MF3 having a backup facility.....

Clearly someone will need to try it.  Actually, that ought to be something the demo mode should either allow you to do or not.  My bet is what either works or doesn't work in the demo mode will also be what happens in real life.

Guess I need to have an RTFM session.  I have time as the 806 will suffice for my next couple of band dates.  If I land on a best practice, I'll be sure to share.

I might even breakdown and call support...  Yes, the green light is on.  No the cup holder is closed with the cd inside... And what part of Bangalore are you from "Mike" ? ... Oh wait, that's Dell  :)

Of course, there’s actually just only one gigantic tech support group in the whole wide world for every manufacturer out there.  ;)

Actually as I uncommitted my RTFM, it looks like maybe it is simpler than I thought.  I have an iPad 3 with MF3 but no shows.  It's my lyrics machine and backup in case of you know...  So it has never actually been docked.  I think what I will do is to slot that one first and make sure the firmware is up to date.  Then I'll shutdown, install my main MF iPad and sync to it.  Seems like that should work...

We bought the 806 and decided we made a mistake and sent it back for the 1608.  We had saved a couple shows, including photos on the faders.  When we received the 1608 we docked it and it updated from 8 channel to 16 and held the show in the iPad.  I can't remember if it saved the other shows or not, but it did save and Carry over the last show in the master fader

I was able to use a friends 806 show on my 1608. Everything seemed to work okay.

Now I am considering getting the DL32r and I'm hoping my own 1608 shows will import.

They won't you have to copy them channel by channel and then set your aux levels and routing
If in doubt ask

Can you copy your DL1608 presets to the DL32?

DL806 shows will work on a DL608 no problem. You'll just end up with more channels that will be set at their default state for each snapshot. You can try this yourself using offline mode, simply change to offline DL1608 and recall snapshots. You'll see them work. You'll likely then make the changes necessary for each one and then replace the existing snapshots with the new ones.

Unfortunately, DL32R has too many different parameters for us to use this automatic approach. We do plan to add a conversion process but we haven't gotten to that yet.
