The Android app for the X-Air is actually quite good (although there are some glitches related to the relatively inconsistent nature of Android implementations). Interestingly, it was originally developed as a third-party app, which the author has also developed for other mixers (Allen & Heath Qu-series and the Behringer X-32/Midas M-32). Since I have occasion to use all of these mixers, it's nice to be able to have a generally common interface for all of them. I'd really like it if the author could do a DL-version for Android...

I suggested to Ben he seriously look at this when Dave was looking to do another mixer. It was on this forum. Too bad he missed that opportunity to breath some life into a now near EOL (End Of Life) product.

Hey RR, I would agree that the X-Air's iOS support is very poor.  Just have to learn the differences between the Android and PC apps.  I've built my rig to hold my laptop, so I will use the LG Gpad 10.1 to roam with and my iPad to play break music via Airplay using DJay2 app.  The biggest drawback I see with the iPad version is the inability to see the console snapshots and the display brilliance compared to the X-Air for Android.

I, too, built my rig to hold a laptop. I've got the X-Air program running on an old Dell B210 running Ubuntu, and connected to my XR18 using ethernet (via a Netgear dual-band wired/wireless router). I've found that I can run the default music player in the background on the laptop, and am sending that audio to the mixer over the USB returns. I've got a bag of el-cheapo Android tablets for remote mixing (a 10.1" Digiland for me, and several 7" Digilands for performers for monitor mixing).

I've uploaded a crappy picture of my rack, taken before I put the USB cable in. The rack is one of those SKB 4-space "studio flyer" racks, and there's plenty of space in the back for a Gator bag full of tablets (I'm using the Gator bag that's a perfect fit for the mixer itself). One thing you can't really see in the picture is the 7-port powered USB hub behind the router, which I use for charging tablets during breaks.

So far, this is working great. I did a large outdoor venue a couple weeks ago, and was able to roam about 100' from the stage before I started to experience any control issues. I've a small club gig tonight, which I anticipate will go very smoothly.

I've got to say that, as much as I liked my Mackie DL1608, I also don't miss it now that it's gone to its new owner.

Very cool.  I use the SKB 6U because I needed the extra 2U for a headphone amp (Behringer HA4700) for the studio and my Galaxy Audio AS1100 IEM Transmitter.  I run my 17" laptop landscape so I can fit my mouse and mouse pad.  I hate glide-pads with a passion  Also running Windows 10 Enterprise, since I record at gigs and need my PC based Sonar Platinum running as well.  Heard that Cakewalk will be releasing a Mac version in the fall.  About time .

Thanks. I used the 4-space rack because I already owned it. Same goes for the aging laptop (though I'm shopping new laptops now for graphics work, and once I find one, I may be able to put my existing 17" Acer back into the audio service it was originally purchased for). I'm not recording at gigs now, but I've been asked a couple of times if I could.
