Board recording choppy in spots on DL32R

Hi,

I do the board recording over USB to a Western Digital 300GB passport.

This time, the recording is very choppy in parts.  It's like the 32R skipped tiny portions and the song sounds like it's fast forwarding for a few seconds.

Has anyone experienced this?  Is there something I'm doing wrong?


Some songs are great.  Others are crap.

Hmm...Possibly because it's not a solid-state drive and I have the 32R right behind the left sub and next to the drums?

What did you end up doing?

Large thumb drive?  I think a 128GB one would work for me as I recorded over 5 hours and only used 63GB with 24 tracks being recorded.

Just like bumping the ole tape deck whilst recording, or thumping on the old spring reverb, sort of.  There's a lot more old chestnuts like that... Showing my age again, rats!

KM comparing the analog to the digital world is like trying to navigate thru a minefield. In this case unless Mackie ignores all error indications (shame on them) dropped frames should be the only issue due to performance (lack of buffering and speed). Alien magnetic fields not withstanding  .

What did you end up doing?

let the drive sit on a piece of soft foam to isolate the vibration but even then, depending on the severity of low end vibration "in the iar" could still cause errors.
Move the device further away from the subs, that is the best option.
