Resyncing Resolved
« on: September 02, 2016, 11:38:12 PM »
I'm doing a large conference in a 9000 seat arena. The show started this morning, and all morning, both of my iPads kept losing connection for about 10 seconds, the reconnecting and resyncing. It happened about every 60 seconds. It was driving me nuts. So I spent my lunch trying to figure it out. And I succeeded.

I went into the Airport Utility app and was looking at my network. I use an Airport Express at the mixer, with an Airport Extreme at FOH to extend the range. The app showed the following 2 error messages on the Airport Express (I'm paraphrasing):

 - "I can't see the internet"
 - "I can't find any DNS servers"

Of course, I don't have the routers connected to the internet, so I would expect these messages. So, on both errors, I selected the option "Ignore this message". I then went back into MF4, and voila, no more disconnects. I had to do this on both iPads, but all is well now. I'm guessing that the Airport Express was looking for the internet once every 60 seconds, and this was causing the disconnect.

if you were getting these disconnects, you should have had a yellow LED on the front of the Express and or Extreme.
You are correct, with the Airport Utility you must instruct the router to ignore the lack of "internet" connection. Once this is done, you should now have a green LED and good solid connection.
Have a good time!

Yes, I did have the yellow led, now it's green.

Now it's day 2, and the leds are green, and, once again, I'm getting the frequent resyncing. Back to the drawing board.

I believe that the delay thru the AP (Airport Extreme in your case) may be a issue. Dl32 may time out. Something to ask Mackie about.

Should I shut off the airport extreme? It worked fine yesterday after lunch.

It's not about the Airport Extreme not functioning correctly it about the turnaround time for communications which I'm certain has a timeout. If you can operate with only one AP ( Airport Extreme would be my choice unless you need Airplay) that would be better but as you get more attendance it may not matter if the airwaves get too crowded. This is the time a wired solution will save the day. This is also the time a spectrum analyzer would come in handy to pinpoint the problem.

Well, I just got it working again. This time the fix was to turn off "Ignore this message" on both iPads. LOL

Makes little sense. The title should read Resyncing Not Resolved. This will show up again. I trust you are only running MF as a app and possibly a playback program. Some apps will attempt to call home for stats and other spying and certainly not mentioned in their manuals  >:(.

Yes, I know it will. It's costing me my last few hairs. However, other than that, I love this mixer.

You do now have a wired solution, I would invest in it.

I might, just for an emergency. But I'm never close enough to the stage. In this show, I'm about 40 yards from the stage.

A Cat5e or Cat6 will go for 100 yds. Just need to figure how to run it.

In this case as WK suggested,,, I too would use just the Extreme, not as a booster to the Express.
