automixer function request
« on: April 16, 2013, 11:33:29 PM »
I'd like to see an automixer function:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automixer
I think think this would open up the console to a larger clientele.
I do a lot of shows for the corporate world and many times that requires 5 or more lavs in a roundtable discussion, this console is great because of it's portability, but an automix function would be an outstanding addition...think yamaha without the card. http://www.yamahacommercialaudiosystems.com/product_detail.php?prodID=1128

Beyond the automixer they really need to make a switch for pre-dsp auxes.
Having 2 verbs would be cool.  Stereo linking...why not...beyond that, it's a great little console.

There is a gate that can shut off mic channels when not in use.

True, but this is not the same as an automixer.  In an automixer the loudest channel is risen and all other channels are attenuated.

If your looking for auto mixers that can be controlled from a laptop/tablet look no further.

Used the price is phenomenal.
Will publish pics after the My Fader feeding frenzy. Have used these in a multitude of applications including live over the past ~ 6yrs.

I've been thinking of going this direction.  I recently purchased a lectrosonic am8 off of ebay for $60.  I have a friend who works for a college, he's certified in crestron programing.... He was recommending a bss sound web London which is similar in thought.  I really haven't thought about these products in the live sound/ band audio world but it really make sense because a college or corporation upgrade on a regular basis and sell these type of products for next to nothing.

I think you would be disappointed with the AM8 or Bss units (old units). The latest Lectrosonic DM series is OK (I have no experience with them or their software). Bss I'm not sure of either. The ones I've used are Clearone/Gentner XAP800, AP800 (old but useful) , Converge Pro (don't like the new software) and the Polycom Vortex EF2280 (don't like the external power supply, software OK) or the older ASPI EF2280 (original). Biamp's latest is fine but hard to find and pricey. There are others but these are the major players. About 2 weeks ago I checked e-Bay and out of 6 viable units the price ranged from $37 to $48 including shipping. You can also buy them for ~$1800. You choice. A new fan costs $7 plus ship.

I would like to try the xap 800 g ware software but I can't seem to find a working download.  Do you have a copy you could send me via email/dropbox, or do you know of a site to download it from?  I can't find it on the clearone site.  Thanks.

Can your e-mail handle 20MB? I tried their website and it's a no-go as you found out. I will check with my connection to see what's happening at ClearOne.

Will post system I've used for several years in different cases and mice configurations under the "Sound reinforcement" forum . Mostly used in an auditorium but also outside in a free-field situation. I works real well with JBL Eon2 15". Set it and forget it when properly adjusted. Good for a 1000 + crowd. Never pushed limit. The current set-up fits on top of a mic stand (6) carrier with mics, tablet PC, batteries etc. on wheels (old luggage carrier).

I posted the pics and stats of the system that I use based on the ClearOne XAP800 here:

Take a look and let me know what you think.
Mostly wireless just haven't found a wireless power source to get rid of the AC cables.
