Possible Channel Issue - Has ANyone Had ANy?
« on: August 19, 2016, 11:42:27 AM »
I have a DL32R.  For the past month or so, input XLR channel 6 on the unit has been giving me this issue.  Sometimes it works normally and sometimes it lowers the volume by ~50dB.  I validate this by viewing the signal level through the Ipad.

I am not sure if it a hardware/firmware/software problem.  So, I let the singer continue using that channel until I experimented with things...

Some nights, the channel worked perfect all night.

Some nights, it showed up at the first mic sound check.

Some nights, it would start off good and then go bad.

I tried using different presets via software settings being saved as a show.

I created new mixes too, and I got similar results as I stated above.

My question again is - has anyone experienced this with their DL32R?

Also, are their any suggestions to better debug this issue?

At this time, I have 8 channels free, so I will not be returning the unit to get fixed, since I will be out of a mixer for a month or so...  I will just bit the bullet and only have 31 channels....

Thanks,

Taki

I have had no issues with input channel 6 or any inputs, but then again, my DL32R is one of the first retail units put into service in the USA nearly two years ago.

I have similar problems with channel 4 & 6 . It's frustrating when you turn up the gain it makes little to no difference and a bad quality low hissed sound comes out. Big problem guys 2 channels are unusable now , maybe even more haven't checked them all yet .

:( Any answer from Mackie about this ?

I would suggest resetting the routing screen to default settings, then check.

Nah , been there done that. Routing aint the problem. My only suspicion falls onto the fact that the console has some internal loose connections or something from vibrations due to the fact that is on constant turing for a year now. But that would mean poor quality manufacturing. Im tempted to open it but it is still under warranty so I'll probably ship it back to Thomman in November after the ture ends.

I too, have one of the first DL32Rs out there (second one GC received!). I was planning to do the 4.5 update this weekend, hopefully that will resolve the issue!

Hi Takis,

I have a DL1608, no channel issues.
The DL32R has almost a hundred shows, and no channel issues until last night.

Channel 6 would only pass signal if the gain was cranked all the way up, and still was low.
Also, there were no lows, as if there was a big low cut filter, but EQ was flat.

I pulled up the Default Scene, downgraded firmware to 3.2 and then back to 4.5.  No change.
Am thinking a hardware issue.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Weogo,
Did you try a different cable?  I've had that happen before, but that was a bad cable and/or bad mic...

Hi Cyclops,

Yep, tried three different cables.

I may try opening up the box and re-seating any obvious cables.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Hi Folks,

All is well.

You will need a #1 Philips bit to remove about 20 screws to get the top off.
Then all I did was slide the ribbon cable off at each end, and back on.
A small screwdriver helped pry the connector off, and also helped with re-seating where the connectors are near the front panel.
I gave the other ribbon connectors a firm press to make sure they were fully seated.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Take any PICs while open? Sounds like the 1604 problem over again.
When in doubt KISS
