FAQ: iPad Channel Level Reduction

The iPad channel is pretty hot - I tame it down about 10 db using the compressor on that channel with these settings:
Threshold: -80.0 db
Ratio: 1.2:1
Attack: 5.0 ms
Release: 500 ms
Gain: 0.0 db

Note that the channel meter shows the input before the compressor so won't show this reduction. You can "solo" the channel to see the output of the compressor and EQ .

Hey @all,

if you ues LivePlayback as a playback app together with the DL1608, you can reduce the output volume of LivePlayback --> reduce the input volume of the iPad Channel. By the way, it also has several additional nice features for live shows.

Seems like the reviews are okay for this app, but they are complaining about inconsistency (gap) between songs. What has been your experience with that? I've tried many apps that people have suggested on this forum. Like to idea of controlling the level, however not enough if I have other issues, especially gaps or inconsistent playback between tracks.

Yes, between the tracks there is a gap. But if you don't want to play a whole playlist continuously it's no problem. I did not bother until now. I use it for all playback during live shows, especially musicals where you have to play some noises during theatre scenes.
Creating a playlist with music before the show starts is no problem. There you usually play songs with a defined start end end, so you won't worry about the gap between the songs.

Try the EQ instead. Band 4 on shelf, pull it left to 20 Hz, and pull it down as needed.

Still have 3 bands left if you want to EQ the music, and the compressor to even out various tracks.

Sure, compressing the snot out of it will work. The EQ solution alters the sound much less. If you use both the high and low shelf pulled to the same point, it alters it not at all.

While I like your idea and may end up switching to that method myself when I get a chance to test it, I'm only compressing at 1.2:1 so it is hardly noticeable.

There was a LivePlayback Update. So in Verion 1.2, the gap between the tracks won't exist anymore. See this:

Thanks Soundman, I'll check it out.  Will have to play with it to understand the operation a bit.
