Brains required! Apple interface in your face?
« on: April 17, 2013, 02:15:58 PM »
Tell me this, you tech guys that know:
The much talked about "2 x 2 limitation" of the 30pin connector on the Mackie and older i-devices.
Would it be possible for Mackie to change their architecture behind the 30 pin Apple interface, enabling new features to lightning equipped devices via an adapter?
Would licensing from Apple inhibit them changing the config of the interface, or would it be limited by the hardware?

Say, have a Master Fader v2.0 series for lightning equipped devices and the current v1.0 series for older Apple devices?
I know the processor can be configured as the programmer wishes, just to what extent?
I know they may never do it, just wondering if it would be possible.
Please excuse my ignorance, I hope this doesn't sound stupid!
The older I get, the better I was!

There is no 2x2 limitation on the iPad's 30 pin connector - the limitation is only in the DL1608 hardware :( .

Thanks RR, I needn't waste anymore time thinking about that then!

It's not impossible that Mackie could support multichannel recording when they incorporate the lightning connector. I'd not count on it though.

That's what I wanted to know.
Possible but unlikely.

Slightly off topic, I'm sure some kind of "tray" with a 30pin/lightning adapter must be in the works for the latest iPad and Mini?

Maybe I got you wrong there:
Do you mean when they incorporate the lightning interface on a new version of the desk?

Either lightning support is in the works or Mackie will soon discontinue the DL1608. I sure hope it's the former!

It's all speculation at this point - dunno if they can fit a lightning connector to the present board or not.

I find that the small 30pin-to-Lightning works just fine.  It would be nice if they want to update their hardware interface, but I'd rather they work on the app and implement stereo ganging of the inputs and sends.
