iPad Air 2 and DL1608 iPad Air Tray Kit
« on: December 29, 2014, 10:42:59 PM »
Does anyone have the DL1608 iPad Air Tray kit and using it with an iPad Air 2.  Just received my iPad Air 2 which is a bit thinner (and lighter) than the iPad Air.  Worried that it will float a bit in the Air Tray kit.

I'm going the other way, trying to mod one of the older trays so I don't have to take my Air out it's case. Think I'll have to grind some of the dock away, though.

what about just leaving the ipad in its case and using a dock extender cable?

that's how i do it, but with a 30-pin ipad 3 into a 30-pin 1608; the cablejive 2' cable works perfectly, and i can just set the ipad case and all on top of the mixer when i'm not using it wireless.

does anybody know if a lightning extender cable works for this?

like say this one?

It should, but there is a length issue I recall seeing somewhere.  The lightning connectors aren't keyed like the 30 pin ones are.

The question is whether Mackie will launch a tray kit for the iPad air 2.

Might be a moot point if I move to the DL32R.

I use a 6ft lightning to USB connector without any issues so I would assume the lightning-f to lightning-m shouldn't either, like this one http://www.fasttech.com/product/1295802-lightning-8-pin-to-lightning-m-f-extension-cable or the one Walter suggested but lightning to lightning instead.

Lightning is an active cable. There's circuitry in there. I would expect extending it to introduce all sorts of variables. From WK's sync issues around extension cables, the DL seems to be very sensitive to that sort of thing.

Of course, for $6 that extension is likely just wires through, so it might work. Not going to be the one that tests it.

It definitely does not line up, I taped 2 layers of 60 mil Duradek exterior vinyl deck covering which brings it up about right but it's still sloppy in the side rails.
Lighter gear, fewer wires, everything on wheels!

The active electronics in the sync/charging cable must be duplicated in the DL connector board so an extension (assuming good quality and not too long) should be just wires.

I guess I will just order the iPad Air docking kit and use my iPad Air (32GB) docked and my iPad Air 2 (128GB) as my remote unit.  May not make sense if I end up with the DL32R and sell the DL1608.

Do you often find yourself using both a docked and wireless iPad for control simultaneously?

I certainly do. Sitting at the mixer, all channels with no scrolling.

That's a pretty darn slick idea. Banked for the future.
