Dl1608 losing connection
« on: April 03, 2015, 09:13:07 AM »
Hi,
Been reading threads here and found a few similar. I use a very new TP Link router with my DL1608 and about every 2 or 3 gigs it has intermittent issues with connectivity. Last night, after 3 hours of working seamlessly, no difference in position of ipad or router (less than 40 feet away) it began to disconnect, after 10 - 20 seconds would reconnect, sometimes without any levels showing for another 10 seconds. Happened about 5 times. This has happened probably 4 gigs in total out of about 15 over the past 3 months. Ipad air, using version 3.01, then reverted to classic and happened again. Any ideas or should I return device? Wifi signal on router is perfect, doesn't lose a bar of signal when the 1608 disconnects. I could try a different router, maybe I'll try another ipad tomorrow if I can borrow one.
Cheers,
Dan

This belongs with the rest of "sync" issues in mothballs, it's quite apparent that Mackie considers this not relevant or it would have gotten attention like "white noise". I think I brought this up about 2 years ago. :) Mandolin is a defective communications protocol. Fiddledan you'll find nothing wrong with the other gear just the DL software.

I thought someone was having better luck with static IP addresses.  In MF 3.x you can assign them.

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies so far. The router is 2.4, should I get a 5ghz router? I scanned that previous thread, a lot about docked ipads. I have never had an issue while docked. I had an 8 hour festival today, only happened a couple of times, and I was watching like a hawk - it seemed to coincide with the wi-fi signal losing one arc very briefly, maybe when the crowd moved through. Issue was it could take up to 20 seconds to re-connect, and sometimes it would say connected but no signal lights were on, and any changes made didn't effect the sound, and disappeared when it re-synced. Has anyone had these issues with a 5mhZ router? It seems to happen less with the classic app, but still happens. Probably dodgy code somewhere in sw/fm.
Cheers,
Dan

Also, with static IP addresses, I tried to input, it didn't work and there is no way to go back to NOT static IP. In the end I had to remove and re-install the app!

I used to have connection issues until I bought an Airport Express.....
The older I get, the better I was!

2.4 GHz works just great if you have no audience and/or are out in the boonies x( . Definitely get something that does 5 GHz if you wish to retain your sanity ;D .

I have always used an Airport Express, and if I recall it does 2.4 and 5ghz.
I have also used it outdoors for concerts with over 5,000 people, in fact, last year I used it outdoors for a fourth of July event
and there were over 20,000 in attendance, although for that event I used the Airport Express with my Allen & Heath Qu console.

Does it switch automatically to 5ghz if it is less cluttered than 2.4?

I just don't know.

How do you select the 5ghz on the airport express? I have the  airport utility app but can't seem to find where to select it...

I too have the Airport Utility on my iPad and I can not find out how to switch it either,,,
I can't imagine that it is always automatically decided by the RF conjestion. Maybe it is.

Dpdan, from what I just read it's automatically switched depending on which is the best signal....

Sorry, I think you have that one wrong.  The latest version of Airport Express will do both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz at the same time.  You do need to set it up correctly, as that isn't the default.  You will need two different names for the WiFis and treat them as different.  I used NoInternetHere and NoInternetHere 5 Ghz with the same long passphrase on both.  You do need to hookup to them separately.  (And each will require the password the first time you connect.)  I'm not sure it's the cure all for your disconnect issue, but it's a good router and you can use Airplay with it.  (See notes on Master Fader and Airplay issues.)
